He's a great coach.
As much as I think Addazio is a great fit for our program, I must admit that when it comes to in game coaching, McElwain coached circles around Daz despite having inferior talent at most positions.

He's a good coach. Being a better in-game coach than Daz doesn't make him great. I also am not certain that CSU had inferior talent. At the end of the day, for what Florida is (a marquee school in the best state for talent in the best conference) this is a very underwhelming hire. He could become the next Urban Meyer (his resume is somewhat similar), but if they had just fired Muschamp last year, they probably could have landed Charlie Strong. Honest question... if BC plays defense on that 4th down, does McElwain get the job?

They did have a 2-time BCS national champion/Rivals 5 star/#1 ranked RB of 2011 who BC failed to bring to the ground on several key plays. Talent was probably pretty close between the two teams on the whole

My favorite part of coaching carousel season is the delusional masses that attended bygone programs like Michigan ranting about Les Miles instead the MAC options available to them.

Yeah. CSU did a nice job there with his buyout clause. I wonder if you'll start to see other mid-majors do this with potential SEC/P5 coaches of the future.

It's a great move. $7.5mm buyout essentially means they can give their next coach 5-years at Big 5 money with virtually no cost to the school.

Can't see the full buyout getting paid, but yes, its is brilliant for CSU. Not real bright on McElwain's part.

That's my favorite part, too. That's why I'm praying the ND Nation lunatics get their wish and Kelly is fired.

If Mike Riley to Nebraska is true, it's one of the most mind-boggling decisions of all time. Like if Florida State rather than NC State hired :toby .

It's such a weird hire on so many levels. First, he is 61... we aren't talking about a young rising coach who could become great. Second, he has no connection to Nebraska or the Big 10. Riley went to freaking High School in Corvallis. He played for Bama. He spent his entire career West of the Rockies. I happen to think he is a good coach. But, one who is on the downside of his career. tally's analogy of Toby being hired by FSU isn't really far off.

Have to think that expectations at Michigan have dropped significantly after seeing what Florida and Nebraska just did.

Unlike some on here, my cfb horizon (and knowledge) does not extend much beyond BC. That said, my initial reaction to thoughts that Addazio might be considered for one of the big factory openings was pretty dismissive. We might highly appreciate what has been accomplished post Spaz, but we're still a work in progress, middle of the ACC pack -- in both wins and losses and in recruiting. But what, I then wondered, if someone had come over and knocked away that CSU 4th down pass, and if Rouse had caught that ball, and if Bordner had thrown to Murphy half a second earlier? We could be 10 and 2 and in the top 20, stupor mundi. And, what then would Addazio's rep and prospects look like? Surely no worse, as a general proposition, than McElwain's. Of course, as has been pointed out, there are at least several current w's that, let's be honest, could easily have ended up in l column -- with appropriate counter-factual (downward) readjustments to Addazio's national image.

Looking at Addazio's performance so far, does it not boil down to luck and the consequences of small sample size -- at least when viewed from a distance?

Still, my hunch is that McElwain is going to turn Florida around. It just has the feel of Urban Meyer coming out of Utah. The Nebraska hire is simply strange.
