I just looked up Mike Riley's record at Oregon State. Who knew there was a west coast version of TOB?

And they hired him to coach an NFL team for a while, too.

If it's someone who's currently coaching and it's supposedly going to make Michigan fans happy, that makes this a very short list.

Yeah, I think that list is a Harbaugh or Les Miles.

But Cowherd describes it as someone nobody would have thought about.

Cowherd has no inside info, and is likely flashing the Gruden Signal.

I love Gruden season. It genuinely makes me wonder if anyone listens to the guy speak when hes on TV. He's an idiot. And he's not a bad coach, but he's been elevated to legendary the longer he doesn't coach.

Never forget, Bill Callahan didn't bother to change the playbook or the names of the plays when he took over in Oakland. Made Gruden's job that much easier.

Gruden's name gets thrown around every December and January for almost every job opening. I didn't think he qualified under Cowherd's description. I don't think it will happen, but I also wouldn't be stunned if it did.

I recently saw a photo of Gruden from his playing days in an old Dayton media guide on Twitter. The caption said he hoped to be head coach at Michigan one day.

People forget that he lost 14 conference games in a row before finally winning one in his third year on the job and that he was 3-24 in conference at the end of his fourth year. No P5 program is going to stand for that, not even the lowest of doormats. Rutgers was the perfect situation for Schiano, a once in a lifetime opportunity. He's not going to find an employer that patient ever again.

He was apparently offered (and turned down) the Nebraska job. Braska also interviewed Kyle Whittingham before offering Riley.

The new Flordia hire is as underwhelming as Schiano

How can you mention all that without pointing out that he was at Rutgers. RUTGERS! He single-handedly took the worst college football program in the country and got it good enough to garner an invite to the Big Ten. He got that POS into the Top 10 in the country on a couple of occasions.

People here have some weird agenda against Schiano. I think it comes from years of trying to argue that TOB was a better coach. Bottom line is that Schiano was offered jobs by Michigan, Miami and the Bucs. TOB got beat out by Winningham for UDub. Schiano is going to do great at his next stop. I just want it to be far away from Jersey because he will be a bitch to recruit against.
