Postby Chris02M on Wed Nov 05, 2014 7:31 pm

I would take either one, after USC, there are no guaranteed losses any more.

Would you prefer Flutie? Wade will be our starter in 2016 and 2017 as well. So Ole Miss in 2018?

If your argument is that he will just be a sophomore without a lot of experience, well, that's the nature of college football.

If we played Ole Miss it would most likely be early season. Taking a first time starter on the road in the SEC is an awful idea.

The argument has nothing to do with Wade.

Pussy. If Ole Miss gives us a home and home, you take it, even if the road game is with a new starter. Wade has been on campus since January 2014. He will be ready to play by Sept 2015. If we lose, we lose.

I hate that ridiculous music they play over the intro too, the brass sounds tinny, like it was actually recorded by Ray Dolby.

As pointed out elsewhere, with UAB folding Tennessee now has an opening on the schedule for next year. I'm going to come out and say this is a bad idea. In fact, I'm going to come out and take an unpopular position and say that I hope BC schedules two boring, cupcake, guaranteed wins with their remaining openings for next year (assuming NMST buys out as discussed recently on BCI).

Next Year's Matchups
Home: FSU, NCST, Wake, VT, N. Illinois
Away: Louisville, Clemson, Syracuse, Duke
Neutral: ND (at Fenway)

I look at that schedule and I see 3, maybe 4, likely wins among the home games. I'd like to think we can win 2 or 3 of the away/neutral games, but to be honest it's also entirely possible that we get swept on the road next year, especially in a rebuilding year.

I know everyone here wants an exciting matchup and is tired of playing boring teams, but we're rebuilding a program. Even 2 or 3 years from now nobody is going to give a shit what our SOS was in 2015. But people will remember if we take a big step back and only win 4 or 5 games. Win totals, that's all I care about because I think it's all that matters when it comes to re-establishing the program as respectable and selling it to recruits.

Give me 2 more cupcakes. Let's turn the 3 or 4 guaranteed wins into 5 or 6. Then let's try to scrape together another 1-3 wins from the road/neutral site games, demonstrate continued improvement while developing a young class and move on. When Daz actually has this program where we all hope to be -- competing for ACC championships and New Year's Day bowls -- then let's worry about SOS and making headlines. For now, forget about 'Bama, Missouri, and Tennessee. Some combination of San Diego State, San Jose State, Fresno State and/or Air Force sound perfect to me.

Bates said no more 6 home game schedules after last year. I expect that means we won't be scheduling Tennessee, unless he decides to count Fenway as a home game.

Because of this, we should play 2 cupcakes next year at home. It's fine. No one bitches when the SEC does it. U Florida hasn't scheduled a home and home non-conference game outside their state in like 20 years.

I will say a home schedule of: Home: FSU, NCST, Wake, VT, N. Illinois + 2 cupcakes is absolutely miserable

That's an understatement. But either way, not like we could get a team like Tennessee to come up here on short notice so the schedule is going to suck regardless.

2 good games FSU and VT. The rest are just meh. But at least we might get the opposite of this year where the home schedule was very fun by the team was like 2-5 at home.

This is what I was getting at though: what's more miserable, playing boring no name teams but still pulling together upwards of 8 or 9 wins OR bringing in some sexy matchup and risk only winning 5 games. Personally I'd rather have boring games where I'm confident we're going to win than blow-out boring games because we're breaking in a brand new QB and offensive line.

Also, you can shell out for the Fenway game. FSU, VT and ND at Fenway are some fun marquee matchups. Don't fully make up for the 4 boring games, but at least they should be 4 boring wins.

Virginia Tech is a god awful football team. That happened to beat the supposed #5 team in the playoff system.

VT is as awful as that 2015 schedule. Good luck selling season tickets with that lineup of games.

I don't see VT being significantly better next year they just looked like a total mess.

The only games we should be counting on as wins next year are against FCS teams.

Next year has a ton of the unknown in it especially at QB.

SEC teams do not need to bring in marquee OOC teams in order to sell tickets and drum up interest. And I know the SEC is probably overrated, but that's only because it is rated so high. Game in- game out, SEC schedule is still tougher than an ACC schedule. We have cupcakes in conference. For the most part, the SEC had none.

We are not winning a NC any time soon, so manipulating the schedule so that we can go 12-0 is dumb. And we should win enough conference games, coupled with cupcake OOC games, to ensure bowl eligibility even with a marquee OOC game. And this assumes we lose it. We beat USC this year, and they were at least as good as any Big Um we can get in here no named Alabama or Oregon.
