I agree. I just don't see them going undefeated. It might take a +3 turnover game, along with a game where our passing game actually works, but such can happen. I think our chances of winning are better than they would appear.
Therein lies the problem, where in the hell are these turnovers going to come from?
I have long maintained that one of the great things about the good years of BC football recently was that the defense was able to produce turnovers and even score points to help out Matt Ryan/Chris Crane/Dominique Davis. Let's take a look at some key stats I went through real quick:
2006-2007
Forced Fumbles: 16
Recovered fumbles: 18
INTs: 21
2007-2008
Forced Fumbles: 12
Recovered fumbles: 8
INTs: 25
2008-2009
Forced Fumbles: 13
Recovered fumbles: 10
INTs: 26 (5 were TDs)
Now let's project what BC will finish with this year, I'll be generous and say we are halfway through the season even though we are beyond that:
Forced Fumbles: 4 (currently 2)
Recovered Fumbles 2 (1)
INTs: 10 (5)
That's pretty damn ugly, and that includes games against Umass, Maine, and Colorado State.
Considering we have a legit pass breakup happen maybe once or twice a game, I would not expect many more INTs. We don't seem to have the hard hitters that we used to have that could knock balls loose either. That leaves strip sacks as our really only good legitimate source for turnovers and they have really struggled getting to QBs lately since everyone knows who Keyes is and where he is on 3rd downs.
