Without Shea there will be no place for all the losers that enter the game in the third quarter to tailgate.

What about the losers that never enter at all?

Shea was awesome a long time ago. Like pedro said, we're talking more than 10 years back. Its old and no longer deserved reputation has kept it on life support for a while, but it looks like BB has pulled the plug.

Aren't they building a dorm on Shea soon anyway? Within the next few years, I don't believe there will be any place to tailgate on what was once Shea Field.

I think its years before that becomes a reality. we need to actually build a baseball field somewhere else or can the program before we can actually rip up shea. it doesn't seem like that's happening any time soon

I never understood the idea to build on shea. It just seems to make to much sense to build an indoor facility and use the rest of the property for football practice fields

We've been so wrapped up in this engrossing discussion of dbs and tailgating that we haven't had a good Master Plan talk in a while.

BC playing this weekend?

If Shea field is already regarded as a laughingstock facility in the world of college baseball, I don't see why they need the new field on Brighton Campus to be built first. There are plenty of other laughingstock baseball fields in the Greater Boston Area that could be used as interim fields. Many of them may even be nicer than Shea.

The field on the Brighton Campus? I agree. It will never happen.

I was on Shea for the first time in 15 years Saturday. I get the hubbub. The biggest difference between Shea and the other lower tailgating areas is the complete lack of Brownshirts within the tailgating area. It is a complete freeforall shitshow.

I dont think youre talking about what I was, which was at the time the idea that for the USC game they'd only allow people with wristbands on.

I had wristbands so that was not an issue.

The hallmark of the freeforall shitshow is a jackbooted thug checking your school-issued, serialized wristband.

The redcoats check the wrist bands. I did not see a single jackbooted thug until midway through the 1stQ. I did not host this tailgate and have no interest in hosting my own tailgate on Shea but now that I have been out there, I see the allure.
It has been over 15 years since Domingo shotgunned a beer. Can't do that anywhere else on lower.

I host and love shea. nothing better than tailgating on grass in my mind. I hate the rules but I don't think theres a better place to be on a nice late summer / early fall day

Did you ever make into the stadium for the actual game or did you just head to Cityside? :quadlaser

Yes and I was of the few that witnessed our final incomplete pass.

Interesting observation from Shea field last week.

When the wristband gates opened around 1:00, I walked over to a friends tailgate and noticed two guys at the tailgate next to us setting up their spread which included two 15 gallon trash cans full of bud light chilling on ice, a case of rubinoff handles, and about 500 solo cups.

Once the general admission gates opened, the music started and we observed a flood of undergrads shotgunning beers and/or drinking straight from a fireball handle that was being passed around.
We concluded after some discussion that since you can't get into the mods unless you are 21 on gameday the upperclassmen have stepped up to provide an enjoyable tailgate experience in spite of the best efforts by the administration to prevent it.

While most of my more memorable pre-game tailgate experiences were in the mods as an underclassmen, I applaud the ingenuity of the current students as the school attempts to legislate fun out of student tailgating.
It is also truly a shame that the administration has made the decision to eliminate access for over 3/4 of the student body to the only student run tailgating location on campus.

I can't even figure out the Shea Field rules anymore and it was never good enough tailgating to cause me to bother.

There are no age limits for Shea field (and I don't recall them while I was a student either).

The only requirement is that you have a ticket (and a wristband if you want to use the "VIP" line).
