This is what I want as well. Adds great value to each of the big 5 conference championship games. They become playoff games themselves, and it can be credibly stated, therefore, that this system really includes 13 teams in the playoffs. Also, most years, the SEC would get 2 teams in, since they will usually garner one of the 3 at large bids. This also provides protection for the super team that goes 12-0, in impressive fashion, with a tough OOC schedule, but loses its conference championship game.
A question I have would be whether or not you give one of the 3 at large bids to the best of the non-power conference teams, by making a rule that at least one of such teams shall come from outside of the Big 10/12/pac 10/sec/acc.
EDIT: one of you
will notice that in cases where a team loses the conference championship game, but gets an at large bid, there will be less than 13 teams in my enlarged definition of playoff participation.
