I'm concerned about the recruiting. I don't get the strategy of recruiting Mass so hard (which has terrible HS Football). We're competing on Mass recruits with Buffalo and Army right now. The RB from CM's only other D1 offer is UMass. That's a problem. Meanwhile, the only Mass kids you actually want are going to eventually end up at Georgia, Michigan & Penn St like they always do.

I am right there with you... if it is 2014. You know... at a point in time where we would also be talking about how valuable BC is to the B10/SEC due to its TV market and cable subscribers.

College sports in general (and football in particular) are in unknown territory. So... whatever you thought was important a couple of years ago isn't. I'd suggest that the only comps for where college sports is headed are International Sports leagues. Some of those leagues have unlimited salaries, no CBAs, no salary caps, no drafts and annual free agency. Think of those weird international basketball conferences. The solution is relatively simple... enact a UEFA promotion relegation system done by the NCAA. The problem is obvious... it takes the power away from the sports conferences (two of which have become significantly more important than the NCAA).

Nonetheless, no one has an effing clue as to how important High School recruiting actually is... mainly because any good players BC gets can be sold to the highest bidder after their first start. Accordingly, I can see a strategy that targets recruits who have a deeper connection to the school/area. Not saying they also share this belief (obviously could be lazy recruiting). Ultimately, I see the sudden college football bubble of the past 30 years popping... leaving teams mostly with Lacrosse-like regional rivalries (so might as well go back to having 60% of the roster from New England).

The CM kids on the team right now are 4 or 5 of the best athletes on the team. The RB should start as should Skeete.

Of course we will lose kids in the portal and be outbid; we have to mitigate and compensate for that as much as possible. BC might want to accept being a stepping stone, especially for certain high-end kids. We might pursue a few HS gamebreaker recruits each year, hoping to get one or two. One clear advantage we have over the factories is the backhanded one of being able to sell immediate and ample playing time against Power-4 competition. We can tell the gamebreaker WR, RB or rush end HS recruit that he can come in and get heavy time as a true freshman. The HS recruit gets game tape against Power-4 competition, and can enter the portal in December after the freshman season and get more NIL total than expected as a HS recruit. Our team gets a dimension we normally don't have, to stretch the other team's defense or stress their offense. I would think getting true freshman tape against Power-4 competition can harvest more NIL in total than entering a factory as a true freshman and then hoping to beat out everyone else right away. Our team then would build a structure where we enhance those gamebreakers.

Part of maximizing roster value and building a reliable system will require taking fliers on kids BC thinks are going to be particularly invested in the school itself, vs. ones (often local) just using BC as a "safety" pending a better offer elsewhere. Identifying those kids most effectively probably means building trusting relationships with a handful of pipeline programs. The CM kids mentioned in this thread, for example, choose to stay home--even ones who had offers elsewhere. So if they blossom that makes it less likely that they will seek to transfer. The outside school would have to outbid not just BC (easy) but the lure of staying home (not so easy).

This approach can be extended to identify kids who particularly want to attend a Catholic university. Between local kids staying home and kids wanting a Catholic school, BC can expect it will be less expensive than otherwise to fend off outside bidders for those kids who develop.

I would think our best hook would be to position ourselves as a development program for the NFL. We tend to punch above our weight in terms of players reaching the NFL, so with O'Brien and staff's NFL pedigree we should lean into that. Developing players less likely to leave, coupled with harvesting the shine from gamebreakers spending their first years here, I would think gives us the best chance possible for consistent success with that occasional special season.

Of the three unannounced verbals, the first has a SEC offer, the 2nd has a Big10 offer, the third does not have another P5 offer.
