Absolutely huge need. Glad we retained him. I still think that missing out on Wilkins was a gut shot to this class. It could have been lessened if we landed another DT like Crawford. But, to miss out on Wilkins (who would have played significant minutes next year) and not replace him... well... that is simply a poor job by the staff to put all their eggs in one basket (which is a strategy that has NEVER worked for BC even though TOB/Jags/Spaz often employed it). I occasionally heard a rumbling that we were trying to flip someone, those died down and it seems highly unlikely something would happen in the last week.

Allen is the guy I had been hearing about (and alluding to on the board). Then, last week, the guy who told me it was still likely to happen said it sounded like it was over (and then blasted Dazoo for striking out on him as Allen and his folks always loved absolutely everything about BC). Monster get. Huge position of need. Ray, Allen and Smith is an EXCELLENT DL class by any standards. If they had somehow also added Wilkins it would be hands-down the best DL class in the school's history.

New Canaan’s Zach Allen De-Commits from Northwestern, Commits to Boston College
By: TERRY DINAN | 1 HOUR AGO

New Canaan’s Zach Allen—Connecticut’s Gatorade Defensive Player of the Year and one of the most sought-after football recruits in the nation—has de-committed from Northwestern and will instead sign his National Letter of Intent this Wednesday to play football at Boston College, the high school senior said.

Zach Allen dumps Hand’s James Van Dell for a school career sack record. (Terry Dinan photo)
“First off, I would just like to thank Northwestern just for considering me,” Allen told NewCanaanite.com. “For me it came down to playing close to home so that all the people who made this possible—my family and friends—could come see me.”

Allen, New Canaan’s all-time leader in sacks, was a co-captain on the 2014 squad that won the school’s second consecutive state championship this past December. Allen had 102 tackles, 13.5 sacks and 2 INTs—including a pick-six. He also caught three touchdowns while lining up as a tight end, fueling some to speculate that he might be playing tight end in college.

Yet Allen said his decision to go to Boston College was not motivated by anything other than proximity to New Canaan.

“It had nothing to do with any football aspect,” Allen said. “Right now I’ll be focusing on defensive end and maybe some goal-line package stuff.”

Read that he's up to 260 and will start out as a DE, I wouldn't be shocked if he playing DT by his junior year. Huge get after losing out on Wilkins.

I'm going to get greedy here. I know Allen committed to NW while on a visit with Joe Gaziano.

Any chance of another flip?

Great addition with Zach Allen. This class is actually turning out to be decent. Missing a couple headliners, but this is a solid all-around class. I also think Addazio has done a fantastic job landing local talent.

Don't want to jinx us here, but out of curiosity, when was the last time a Daz commit actually flipped to another school on us?

Edit: Tre Tarpley flipping to Vandy last year?

I think Lukas Denis is going to be a three year starter at free safety. Really like his potential.

Agreed 100%. Hopefully they can do it right and redshirt him next year. I also think Amir-Torres could be sleeper of the class based on his performance at the all-america game.

Hey, a surprise already. 6'2 285 DL Evan Kelly transfers in after three years at Richmond. Welcome aboard. :screamyeagle

edit: first team all CAA as a senior, 17 career sacks...this guy's going to contribute.

Glines is official so only waiting on Smith (which makes sense given the time difference).

Just looked him up....he is like that guy (should know his name) we got from Columbia last year...somehow had played five seasons in a row but still had one year of eligibility left.

Ray Smith is now official as well.
Good job to Daz on holding all our commits plus adding the DL from Richmond.

For those that remember Connecticut's Chris Clark (who seemed to love the whole recruiting game thing), he ultimately landed at UCLA.
