myles kennefick {l Wrote}:
dtwalrus {l Wrote}:After this flurry of recent signings, anyone have a sense of what positions and top targets remain for the last 5 spots?

We have:
DBs: 5 (for now) Denis, El Attrach (could end up WR), Davon Jones, Walker, Harris (prob end up at LB)
LB: 3 (between 2 and 4) Grice, Karafa, Martin (could be FB), (Harris will eventually be a LB)
DL: 1 Ray Smith

WR: 3 (maybe 4) Glines, Pankey, Borgersen (Taj Amir Torres said he was recruited as a WR, but it's unclear if he should be considered a commit because of his academic uncertainty)
TE: 2 Garrison, Burt
OL: 5 Monteiro, Palazzolo, Phillips, Knopfke, Lindstrom
QB: 1 Robinson
RB: 1 Gowins

So, we have either 21 or 22 recruits (23 if the rumors of Jordan Allen being a commit are true, altough I doubt it), and 4 (El Attrach, Harris, Martin, Glines) whose position is currently unsettled. That leaves us with 5 or 6 scholarships, and the most clear need at DL. I'm sure with only a handful of offers still up for grabs the staff is narrowing its focus, and some guys who had previously been targets are no longer seriously being considered, but best guess for remaining spots (and some targets in parentheses):

QB: 1 (Wes McKoy)
DL: 3 (Wyatt Ray, Wesley Annan, Christian Wilkins, J Hunter Roman, Eric Assoua....I can't think of anyone else they're recruiting for DL. Maybe Pickard but I think they're recruiting him for TE)
LB: 1 (Fox, James Smith-Williams, Reagan Williams, Toohill, Sheppard, Brightwell)
BPA: 1 (Pickard, Davon Ellison, Nick Westbrook, Gary Jennings, etc. who knows)

A lot obviously depends on where the staff sees the current commits ending up, but I get the feeling that they're just going after athletes and worrying about where they play at a later date.

Does anyone know anything about Davon Ellison's recruitment? Haven't seem much on him lately, but I had been getting the feeling he was favoring Syracuse (and I had previously been under the impression BC was leading).

I have a feeling that Pickard would be viewed more of a DL recruit but thats just my opinion. BC is hanging around with Ude but I think he will take a while with the process and his top 8 is an impressive group of schools (AW is on him I believe so hopefully that helps).

I think Jordan Fox is probably out (Stanford). The rest of the names/positions, who knows. The recruiting sites havent been overly accurate as a number of names have come out of the blue.

I agree on Pickard and think he'd be great at DE, but I thought I read somewhere that the staff would give him a shot at TE. I think Ude lists BC out of loyalty and there's little chance he ends up at BC.

Daiquan Kelly commited to Syracuse over MSU, Rutgers and Pitt, BC originally offered but was not in his top 4 towards the end of the process.

Someone pointed out that Fitch recruits FL so Wyatt Ray is a good guess.

When they get a recruit to commit I picture Daz ringing a bell in his office like some bars with a big tip.

That Ben Albert tweet is from when Ray Smith committed. Wyatt Ray is a good guess. It could also be Nick Westbrook, but that's less likely.

I wonder if Dabo will stubbornly keep kicking to him like his predecessor.

Seems like a good athlete, but it looks like he runs a pro-style offense in high school.

As a cornerback, I think he's impressive at QB.

I like what Daz is doing at the QB position for this year. Assuming Wade works out, there will be little buffer between the 3, and both Robinson and Smith are athletic and project at different positions. I assume this means that there is no room for the QB from Bosco Wes McKoy, unless the staff is projecting Smith as a DB right away

If Brown intends to largely abandon the 4-3, in favor of a college variant of the 3-4 or 5-2 (with pass rushers or stand-up LBs on the outside, and a mix of gap shooting tweener DTs in the middle 3 spots), then how does everyone feel about our DT / DE depth? If that's his plan, we really only need one more DT, and maybe 1 more DE, given the size of last year's class.

That would explain a lot, because it's obvious he trying to maximize the number of blitzing OLBs, SS, and speed rushers that are on the field at one time.

Not too encouraging. The last next Reggie Bush was a bit of a bust, so this does not bode well for the next, next Reggie Bush.
