When was the last time you even attended a game at the Heights, my fine sports-hating friend?

i believe if im not mistaken it was the jags fsu game, i remember it because he brought unseasonably nice weather with him

this.

although with this great coach at the helm and the crowds causing the stadium to burst at the seams, i may just have to make a trip up next year. let me know where your hot tub will be and i'll bring some of my ladyfriends along...

Why would anyone want girls in the hot tub?

Besides, we have a strict rule that you must evacuate your rectum before entering the hot tub - Lord knows it is going to get filled up with other things once you jump in!

:whammy

As a local I don't mind the Friday night game but it's brutal for anyone who doesn't live & work within 128 and can't bolt early. It gives us a night game and frees up a Saturday...

Also the move from 8 to 7 makes it even worse

Even if you're inside 128 best of luck from anywhere not west of the city

Outside of the shitty support by the students, a night game in November with temperatures in the 30's doesn't help attendance. I wonder how many no shows there were and how many unsold tickets. My section gradually filled up through the first quarter with most of the usual season ticket holders showing up.

What exactly where the students doing instead of going to the game? We know its not partying or something normal college kids would do.

The mods have been perpetually dead ever since BCPD stopped allowing gatherings in the courtyards outside of tailgating hours. This is, at least partially, not the nerds' fault.

You didn't have the pleasure of being a student with the new Gold Pass ticketing system, where the nerds go to swipe into games to get the Gold Pass points and then immediately walk out the otherside of the arena. It pissed me off to no end that I would be walking into a game 15 minutes early and see people I knew already leaving.

The Mods looked absolutely dead when I walked past them on Saturday.

It seems like a lot of students are tailgating on Shea. I think I went onto Shea once as a student in four years. Is this becoming a thing?

Ya...and with the whole rules re: Shea entrance closes 30min prior to kickoff, the students (most of whom care more about who wins the Bachelorette than BC football to begin with) ditch the mods early so they will be able to get onto Shea.

I'm same boat as you, I think I went to Shea twice during my four years. It's cool, but the mods are way better IMO

the mods suck because the mod fence keeps the under 21s out (i think that's what you fucking nerds told me) whereas shea lets in anyone with a ticket.

60% - 70% of the student population are under 21 during football season but likely still like an adult soda every now and then. as a result, i can see the mods taking a backseat to sharing a bottle of fireball with jared dudley.

Fair point- but there are also other ways to get in for the young ones (like going before they close the gates off)

what time does the nerd-stop-o ( - tre enterprises plc) close the gates?

where are the early bird nerds supposed to hide until tailgating is "legal" under your plan? as a hint, i would not suggest hiding in a tree whilst setting a couch on fire. those folks usually get spotted and identified

They close the gates at the same time that tailgating starts, and last year I did see people just waltzing around the mods who clearly were underage. Not saying a large number of people do it, just saying there are ways around.

I actually agree with your point about how the mods lose their appeal because only a small portion of students are "allowed" in. Though for seniors, I don't know why you'd go anywhere else...especially because unlike on Shea where they can kinda escort you out of there once the game starts, in the mods the party can keep going (not endorsing this behavior, just noting it).

I wonder what the appeal of Shea is to the non-21 undergraduate though. If you have a parent or friend's parent on Shea, then I can understand wanting to tailgate there. For everyone else though, I think drinking in your dorm or getting into the Mods early involves a lot less inherent risk. The Fun Tailban have been seemingly less active this year, but I have seen them check IDs and ticket underage students at some games. This threat is (almost) nonexistent if you're slamming beers in Walsh or Vandy where there is also food, warmth, beer, television, and beds where you could make teh juice before Nerd Kickoff.

I did not know those rules had been in place for so long. I thought it was a relatively new thing (last 1-2 years). In that case, it's on them.

The last time I tailgated in the mods was 2010 when my colleague's son was a senior. It was decent pre-game, dead post-game.

There is no reason for the Mods to exist if you take away the only reason the Mods exist.

Between the limitations on Shea and the Mods and the crappy product that was on the field (under Spaz), I don't see why anyone would ever attend a game. Since Daz is a GREAT hire and all, the on-field product has improved enough that attending a game isn't some sort of penance. But, the Master Bates Plan to further enhance the ridiculous self-imposed no-fun restrictions makes it nearly impossible to claw back all that was lost under Gene (as it just encourages nerdism and down-in-frontism).

While I'm sure there is more than blood running through those veins, yes they do still exist. And having had roommates in the campus EMT group, the success rate is pretty low for these daring souls. More often than not they end up at St E's after faceplanting on the cement and/or get impaled by the spikes on top of the fence.

And to your earlier point- ya, post-game (at least as of last year) was dead, but pre-game was decent until the mass-exit towards shea

it is not difficult for a thing like this to happen... even when the same sort of fence was used to protect alumni stadium (before the coughlin expansion). just sayin
