As a valued member of our community, it is with great pleasure that I share with you first that Steve Addazio will be announced as the next Head Football Coach at Boston College this evening. A New England native, Steve joins us from Temple where he has served as head coach the past two seasons. Steve brings to the Heights a background of football success that includes two years of head coaching experience and six years on a Florida staff that won two national championships. More importantly, his value system will lead our football program in ways that will make us all proud to be Eagles.

We ask that you join the BC Community in welcoming Steve to Chestnut Hill. A press conference to formally introduce Steve is scheduled for tomorrow. You may follow all of the action on bceagles.com.

Thank you for all you do for Boston College. Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Brad Bates

Press release:
December 4, 2012
For Immediate Release
STEVE ADDAZIO NAMED BC FOOTBALL COACH
Temple head coach to lead Eagles
Steve Addazio, head coach at Temple University for the last two seasons and a member of two Florida coaching staffs that won BCS national championships, has been named head football coach at Boston College. Addazio will be introduced at press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Barber Room of the Yawkey Center.
“Steve Addazio brings three critical traits to Boston College football,” Director of Athletics Brad Bates says. “First, he genuinely cares about his students and will facilitate their formation and development in meaningful ways that creates a family culture extending into the entire BC community. Second, he has a passion that is contagious and an energy that will motivate those fortunate to meet him. Finally, he is a proven winner with an extensive history of success as an assistant and head coach that includes two national championships. We are very excited to have Steve Addazio leading Boston College football and look forward to an extraordinary future.”
Addazio, who guided the Owls to a 13-11 overall record in two seasons as head coach including a 9-4 overall mark in 2011, has 26 years of coaching experience and 12 postseason bowl games on his resume. He has coached in six BCS bowl games in the last 17 seasons.
Prior to leading the Owls, Addazio spent six seasons (2005-10) at Florida under head coach Urban Meyer, serving as offensive coordinator for the last two. During his tenure in Gainesville, the Gators participated in six post-season bowls and won two BCS national championships (2006 and 2008). He joined the Gators’ staff as tight ends coach in 2005 and also served as offensive line, tackles and tight ends coach (2006), offensive line coach (2007) and offensive assistant head coach (2008) prior to being named offensive coordinator.
Addazio oversaw one of the country’s elite offenses and tutored Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Tim Tebow. Florida finished the season ranked first in the SEC in total offense and second in rushing offense, passing offense and scoring offense. The Gators were the only team in the nation to rush for more than 3,000 yards and pass for more than 3,000 yards. He completed his tenure at Florida on Jan. 1, 2011, coaching Florida to a 37-24 win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl.
Addazio began his ascension up the college football coaching ranks in 1995 at Syracuse. The Orange won three consecutive Big East crowns and appeared in bowl games during each of his four years before he assumed assistant coaching duties at Notre Dame, where he served as offensive line, tight ends and special teams’ coach from 1999-2001. Addazio moved on to serve first as offensive line coach then offensive coordinator during a three-year stint at Indiana (2002-04) before joining the staff at Florida. Prior to his Division I collegiate coaching career, he served as one of the nation’s top high school coaches at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, Conn.
A native of Farmington, Conn., Addazio, 53, began his coaching career at Western Connecticut State University, where he served as an assistant coach under Paul Pasqualoni from 1984-87. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Addazio earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1981. A four-year starter for the Blue Devils on the offensive and defensive lines, Addazio completed a master’s degree in 1985. Addazio earned tryouts with the New England Patriots, the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL, and the Ottawa Roughriders of the CFL.
Born June 1, 1959, Addazio is married to the former Kathy Donoghue. They have three children– Nicole (age 26), Jessica (23), and Louie (20). Louie is a sophomore tight end on the Syracuse football team.

EO was always going become nothing more than a hardcore gay porn site. This will just speed up the process.

Like most of you here, I'm guessing this was a $$$ issue related hire. BC going cheap again, Fr. Leahy still hasn't learned his lesson.

Because whenever you can get a guy that UConn passed up for their own shitacular coach, you just have to pull the trigger.

Just a thought from a UF friend of mine brilliant football mind very well respected: Very intense/high energy guy. OL coach by trade... Loves big, physical, nasty OLs and running the ball. Tough, physical mindset for his players. This guy always liked Addazio as well. I'd take his opinion over any other UF fan.

This hire, just like all the rumored candidates, just like the coaching "search", just like the 72 pages of discussion and speculation below, is crap.

It's all crap.

Bates could't find someone under 50?

I wonder if anyone turned us down or made demands that Bates found to be unacceptable?

I think he'll do a good job recruiting, build some decently talented 7-5 teams and leave a solid foundation for the next coach in 2018. That's the most positive spin I got.

Sadly I know a bunch of UF rivals that loved him as an OC as well.

Old, but demonstrates why UF fans didn't like Addazio (this may qualify as "strong" writing skills for an SEC grad. I like how in the comments they call him "Snoozio." We can work with that.
