This all intrigued me four years ago.

I'm a recruiting guy and I know Chris Coyer. You can't win with him as your starting quarterback. He's the only impact player on the field to touch the ball on every play. Inconsistent running game with Montel injured most of last year. He was doomed to fail and I want to see what he can do with some offensive talent (assuming the line continues to improve).

Well... I'm a coaching guy and I know Jon Gruden. And THIS GUY knows that there's isn't anything more than a fake field goal call carrying Ryan Day.

Before someone gets here and says that Frye is a bad hire because he is not a big name OL coach, I wanted to check what other BC OL coaches resumes looked like (pre BC), he certainly doesn't have much experience:

I was hoping that Frye was goint to be TE/RC. Unfortunately, this makes Devine and Siravo more probable.

I didn't want him to be RC, I am cautiously optimistic with him as OL coach. I want the Temple running backs coach even though he too has a sort of but less light resume (3 years at Army, 6 at Temple).

He is a Golden guy though, not an Addazio guy so I don't know if that will matter.

From @FakeBaldwin: What do you think of the staff building in Chestnut Hill? Retaining McGovern and bringing back Day?

I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I read Boston College was naming Steve Addazio as the new head coach given some of the other names I'd heard were up for the job, especially since he'd just come off his second season at Temple and gone 4-7, having dropped five of the last six games of 2012. But Addazio is well respected by the high school coaches in New England, and I really like what he has done in building his staff.

The most underrated assistant hire of the past month was BC snagging defensive coordinator Don Brown away from Connecticut. Just look at the improvements Brown has made at his last two stops, Maryland and UConn. He is excellent. I also like Addazio bringing back Ryan Day, who is one of the sharper offensive minds on the East Coast. (Any coach who gets the Chip Kelly Seal of Approval sounds like a good addition to me.) Bill McGovern's track record on D is excellent as both a communicator and recruiter in the Northeast. All reasons for BC fans to be optimistic.

I won't complain about a former UF S & C coach (except I'm illiterate and he was an assistant there).

Heard through the grapevine that Day and McGovern are gonna be it for Spaz holdovers. The rest are not being retained. If true, this is too bad about Al Washington.

On paper, Leonard seems like a great hire.
As for Piraino, anyone who has close ties with Winningham is OK in my book.

Both are guys that Addazio is very comfortable with (Leonard played FB and got his coachting start with The Dazzler). Piraino was Temple's S&C and worked at UF. With the exception of everyone's concern about Day, so far so good. That said, I'd like to see this staff get younger and darker over 3 of the remaining positions.

Im happy that SA had a definitive guy he wanted for S/C and is bringing someone hes worked with for a long time. That S/C position is arguably the most important member of the staff because of the access they have to the players when coaches are limited per the NCAA.

Until they are replaced, the current assistants are still recruiting. Didn't we just have a similar issue with Devine (where a recruit was saying that he was talking to him every day). Then, we announced Frye as OL and Leomard as TE.

2014 QB Morgan Mahalak talks Boston College Junior Day and his relationship with recruiting coordinator Andrew Raphael.

This was the teaser intro to an article on 247. Does anyone know this name Andrew Raphael. It says he is assistant recruiting coordinator but I dont ever remember seeing this name before. Is he a new name to the staff or a Spaz guy still under contract ?
