Is this more like the "I'm not going to the Clemson game" hissy fit or the "I hate life insurance salesmen" hissy fit? Maybe you should read the brief and/or watch the video first.

HJS or someone else with mad researching skills should list the jobs each current ACC AD had immediately preceding their current position. This should provide some context to the OH NOS, WE GOT A MAC AD crowd.

I don't care what (insert Boo, Williams, Bobinski, and Bates here) did before he became our AD, so long as he fires Spaz at the right moment, hires the right head coach, and then makes efforts to improve gameday experience. If he fucks those things up, then I'll be freaking irate. At the end of the day, there's no guarantee, based on their resumes, that one would do this properly and the other wouldn't. Time will tell if Bates is the right AD for BC.

Here's the SEC:

UF - Jeremy N. Foley, former job: Florida (Assoc. AD)
Kentucky - Mitch Barnhart, former job: Oregon St. AD
UGA - Greg McGarity, former job: Florida (Asst. AD)
Mizzou - Mike Alden, former job: I can't find this easily
USC(east) - Ray Tanner, former job: USC baseball coach
Tennessee - Dave Hart, former job" "executive" AD at Bama (I think this is worse than AD)
Vandy - David Williams II, former job, this is confusing but he was an internal hire

Bama - Mal Moore, former job, Bama asst. AD
Arkansas - Jeff Long, former job, AD at Pitt
Auburn - Jay Jacobs, former job, Auburn asst. AD
LSU - Joe Alleva, former job, Duke AD
MSU- Scott Stricklin, former job, MSU Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs
Ole Miss - Ross Bjork, former job, AD at Western Kentucky
TAMU - Eric Hyman, former job, TCU AD.

A lot of Miami fans thought he was a pretty good fundraiser and marketer, so there's that. But he apparently wanted to use Miami as a stepping stone the day he got there. He was a finalist for a lot of BCS AD Jobs.

Based on this, plus the handful of ACC schools mentioned above, it appears that Bates' resume (coming from the AD position at Miami U) is of the type people would expect from out new AD. (The SEC trends a little higher, but that is the SEC). People who are bitching SOLELY because he is coming from a MAC school are talking out of their arse. He may turn out to be clownshoes, but he has the typical resume, that's for sure.

Also, there was that thread on the miamihawktalk message board (a board that's deader than EagleInsider) where some people kinda liked Bates and some people weren't too unhappy to see him go.

Which makes me wonder: how many schools' fans overwhelmingly love their athletic directors?

Even here at BC, between 2004 and 2008 (after he got us into the ACC, but before he issued the Jets-interview-ultimatum), how many people would have been devastated if GDF left?

They'll ask the questions we wanted asked at the press conference today. BB will talk around them, but they will be asked. Dennis doesn't give a crap, but Callahan has some affinity for the school. I saw him in the Plex lot before the Clemson game in '09. He was tailgating and did not look like he was there for work.

Granted I never listen to Boston sports radio, but it sounds like BC gets more pub on the NY morning show than the Boston

IIRC, Boomer Esiason's kid goes to BC so that's probably why. Point taken though about Boston media usually not giving a shit.

I'm convinced that the optimal skill set/pedigree/attributes that make a quality AD are formed at all levels of college ball, and Do not require first-hand experience at a peer BCS school.

Consider that Stanford's legendary AD, who presided over 20+ Sears Director cups, and unparalleled success across the broadest range of men's/women's sports, hand picked his successor from University of Delaware, a good 1-AA football program, with no experience in TV contracts, BCS politics, or World-class Non-revenue spits. Programs that feed our Olympic team.

Minnesota hired VCU's AD ... Which doesn't have football or hockey.

Bottom line, Hiring an AD is nothing like hiring a BCS level football coach ( which does require exposure toNFl/BCS competition ... Or a proven track record as HC t 1-AA)
