It is less than 3 weeks to commencement and I would imagine there is a chance Montel has his last official class at BC this week, tomorrow perhaps? With exams next week if he has any. It looks to me like the time frame is based on Montel completing all of his course work. Once he is officially finished with BC he then can say whatever he wants because he has 1 year of elgibility and his classes at BC are completed.

But he probably still wants to keep quiet until Spaz signs the paperwork permitting him to transfer.

He doesn't need Spaz's signature, I believe. He'd be going somewhere to pursue a grad degree that BC doesn't offer (like engineering) in order to play right away. I don't think the school has any say in whether or not you do that.

There's nothing wrong with Suffolk Law if you finish top 20% and don't leave Boston. It isn't a great school, but it puts out some good lawyers.

I am not bothered by the fact that the Greasy Eyeties are conniving and duplicitous. Big time college athletics have always been a cesspool and being conniving and/or duplicitous has always been an advantage (go read bios of John Heisman, Knute Rockne, Bear Bryant, Frank Leahy, Bud Wilkinson, John Mckay. Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Barry Switzer, Tom Osbourne, Frank Broyles, etc.--they were all scumbags to one degree or another).

My problem is that they are so hamfisted and ineffectual in their sleazyness. This is just fucking amateur hour. Removing from consideration the morality of this affair or the obvious deleterious effect on recruiting caused by tossing one of your all time greats under the bus, just consider that these two fuckheads couldn't even pull off a half-way plausible character assasination against a 22 year old college athlete. If you can't win that fight you don't desreve to be in a position of authority. Hell, you shouldn't be allowed to coach something as unimportant as any woman's sport.

Montel Harris didn’t want to talk about specifics. The past - which now includes Boston College football, with the announcement Tuesday that he had been dismissed from the team - is the past.

“Montel Harris has been permanently dismissed from our football team due to a repeated violation of team rules,’’ coach Frank Spaziani said in a statement. “We are grateful for his contributions the past four seasons and will support him in completing his degree requirements and in his future pursuits.’’

The GDF/Spaz story is quite effective in some circles. I met a sports media personality with BC ties this weekend at the Red Sox game. We were shooting the breeze and the subject of GDF and Spaz came up. I started harshing on those two immediately, mentioning among other things "what happened to Montel".

The personality said s/he assumed Montel must have committed some set of violations like "drugs" or something like that based on the press release.

I cited what I learned from all of you and said,

NO, that's not what happened. According to the message boards, Montel was ready to transfer in December because Spaz misused him so much. Problem is, Montel needed BC to get him the medical redshirt from the NCAA, and to get his degree so he could play immediately next fall. So he played along with Spaz and GDF as they applied for the medical redshirt. Then he got to Spring practice, and said he couldn't go because of his knee. So he sat out Spring Practice.

Then Spaz gets wind at the start of last week that Montel is planning to pull this, and he and Gene run Montel out under the ambiguous "rules violations" before Montel can announce a transfer. The cover story in its ambiguousness is quite effective because it's easy to believe a story that a guy named "Montel" (which I say in Ebonics style) would break all sorts of rules. Then the whispers fit into all the preconceptions people hold--especially since Spaz is thought to be such a "nice guy".

I have to say, it was like the clouds parted with this one and something finally dawned on him/her that GDF and Spaz are emperors who don't wear clothes. I don't think my one conversation will have any effect, but the cumulative effect of our "alternative" stories can certainly have an impact in this era of "social media" where our story can actually get out there.
