JRowland_Rivals: Maurice Hurst Jr. to #BC fans after #OSU offer: don't freak out, Eagles still in great shape.

Safety Malik Rucker, who recently got an offer:

Of his recent offers, Boston College is one where the Minnesota native has some connections which could make that recruitment interesting.

"I know it is a great academic school because my cousin is Brandon Robinson, who played receiver for Boston College," Rucker said. "He was just saying to take the process all in and don't try to rush it. He said don't go to Boston College just because he says it is a good place. He said he really liked the school and he had a good time going to the school. I think that will be a factor in my decision."

I vaguely remember hearing that the Robinsons were friendly with the Bells. Hopefully that's a connection that will continue to pay dividends.

Penn State recruiting article mentions Maurice Hurst Jr in it:

http://victorybellrings.com/2012/04/03/weekly-penn-state-recruiting-update-43/

The weekend of April 14th could get busy, as OL Dorian Johnson and LB Alex Anzalone have told me they intend to visit. Joining them could be DT Maurice Hurst Jr. who told me “I have a Penn State visit coming up in April. It’s been my favorite school since I was little. I’m wearing Penn State sweatpants right now, actually!”

Ugh. Adding Hurst=Adding McDonald=Adding Montgomery=Adding Montelus plan in serious jeopardy.

New commitment - Jack Cottrell (listed as an LB but possible TE or DE) from Minnesota. 3 star guy. Only other offer is North Dakota but seems like a very solid guy that we clearly liked a lot to offer this early. You never know what will happen after the season we might have coming up but happy to have him aboard.

Chris Laviano got some good news to start his vacation in the Bahamas.

The quarterback from Hicksville (N.Y.) Holy Trinity confirmed to ESPN via a text message that he received a scholarship offer from Boston College on Monday.

“I've been there only once but the college campus was incredible and enjoyed hearing about the tradition at B.C.,” he stated.

Laviano also has a scholarship offer from Rutgers and has received interest from Connecticut.

Laviano obviously isn't afraid to travel. He participated in the Elite 11 regional quarterback camp in Arlington, Texas, last weekend.

Wow, he only has 1 offer? The highlight video is actually impressive. I like his intensity and his will to wrap people up. He's got to bulk up and transfer his body weight better on tackles.

I know jack shit about Minnetonka football. So, I was looking at other offers. From the film, he looks too slow for LB. But, he does have potential at DE.

Interesting approach big Al is taking recruiting Jacquille Veii:

With Boston College and Ohio coming through I have practically the same offers as my teammate [Rachid Ibrahim]. We're considering going to school together, but that hasn't been determined yet …I was thinking about committing to BC when I got the offer, but [Boston College assistant] Coach [Al]

Washington said I should wait and see if I liked the school when I visited. He told me not to rush into any kind of decision.

Better than to risk a defection later on. Also, there are not a lot of recruits that come home from a visit unimpressed with the school, unless they are looking for factory-like facilities.

On another note, I really feel like Hurst is the lynchpin to this recruiting class. If he comes it could be very good: if not it could be a disaster.

The Xaverian guys seem to disproportionally commit to BC when offered going back as far as I can remember. And I am older than most on this board.

Go Hawks!

BC still needs 3 DTs in my opinion. With Rudolph probably gone after his stupid stunt and rumors that Quinn lost a year, this leaves virtually nobody behind Appiah and Ricci. Hopefully Commissong's nephew can join the two MA DTs. Also, Cotrell seems more like a DE than a LB in BC's system. BC likes their DEs tall so at 6'4" Cotrell fits the bill and he'll have two years to bulk up to around 250lbs or so that is needed to play DE. The rest of the class looks spot on but you know they'll be some under the radar players offered at camp too.

That is a great mock class... too bad you should've added the footnote that this is what the class would've looked like if BC hired Bill O'Brien.

It was tough to make one considering everything going on. Had a Cane fan say god job with putting the mock together but it will all be irrelevant by November when Spaz is fired. I was thinking the same thing as I wrote it but I wish I had that much faith in Gene actually firing Spaz by then. We'll see some of the spots were tough because theres no clear strong leans but that class isnt entirely impossible.

First of all I'm not going to sit here and say Maurice Hurst Jr. is still a lock to land with BC but I spoke with a good source today and apparently the Eagles still feel great about where they're sitting.

If this source is Spaz, you can pretty much bet your bottom dollar he's long gone...

George Mason doesn't have a football team so it's JMU.

Glad to see we're recruiting against CAA schools in Football.

To be fair, he has an offer from Temple. I actually think he'd be a solid guy and will actually end up with some other BCS offers (sounds like Purdue could be next). That said, he's going to VT to try to earn an offer and it seems clear to me that if he gets one, he's not coming to BC.
