Spaz isn't going anywhere....

Postby 1981Eagle on Fri Nov 11, 2011 9:57 pm

Why? Money payout along with the excuse that we are the second youngest team in the ACC. If Keeks and Montel return, we will sneak into a bowl next year. Bad news is that will keep Spaz for a few more years. Again, welcome to the early 90"s before Coughlin, complete, absolute mediocrity bordering on Cuse-like failure. Cut GDF's salary in half and get a real coach with the extra money. We have good coaches in York and Donahue. Why TF are we paying this A-hole GDF so much. We pay our FB coach among the LOWEST in the FBS but our AD is among the HIGHEST paid in college sports. What's wrong with that picture. Absurd.

There is 0% chance of you seeing Luke and Montel back at BC next year. Gene still shows unwavering support of coach sadface, to the point of 2-10 does not fire spaz. :spaz3 probably goes 5-7 or 6-7 next year and gets to be retired on Gene's terms of mission accomplished after 2013's 4-8 or 6-7 season. :ace

I hear he is coming back. I would just add the caveat that the season is not over and weird/bad things could happen, like losing 100-0 or something.

It's all Jags fault...and McGovern...and Devine...and Siravo. It's everyone's fault but Gene and Spaz. To echo what others are hearing, I think Spaz is back with some staff changes. He'll throw the three guys mentioned above under the bus and people will be talking about 10-2 again. Meanwhile no one will notice Spaz's "don't recruit during the season" strategy went about as well as his use of time outs.

the problem is that there is no critical media presence in boston for BC... if we had a reporter or two writing critical pieces then this would be a completely different situations. instead blauds is spoon fed bullshxt from Flipolean and then regurgitates that into an incoherent, poorly written article starting with "This time it was different".

No one will be talking about a 10-2 or even a 7-5 season no matter what changes are made unless it's a change at head coach.

Our staff has been an epic failure. BC Football is a joke right now and if changes aren't made, I don't see it turning around any time soon. :(

I believe that Gene REALLY wants to keep Spaz and is looking for a reason to keep him on board for at least one more year. However, I also believe that Gene is not a stupid businessman. He knows that any buyout Spaz is owed is only going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the almost guaranteed loss in donations, season ticket revenue, concessions, etc. that will be coming with another season under Spaz. Even with a great home schedule next year, I can't imagine a scenario where Spaz is coaching and the attendance is any better than it was this year.

Any pressure that Gene is under right now to end Spaz's reign of terror is going to multiply over the final two weeks when they get their dicks kicked in by Notre Dame and Miami on national TV...two games that the alumni and donors actually care about. If they win one or both of those games, Gene will have his excuse to bring him back. If not, I think he's out.

I don't think Keeks is coming back either way. He's got no reason to stay under Spaz and he probably wouldn't want to stick around for an entirely new regime. Though if he did, he'd probably be more prepared for the NFL, as he would learn novel concepts like "nickel" and "dime" defense.

Montel really has no choice but to come back. Until he proves that he's healthy, he's not getting an NFL contract.

Oh, and there's plenty of talent to win 6 games next season under a different coach.

Take a look a the schedule with an OOC of ND, Army, Maine and Northwestern, at worst they go 2-2, at best 3-1. Then I am predicting a 2-6 or 3-5 ACC record, hence spaz ranges from 4-8 to 6-6 (6-7 with bowl loss). We all need to get comfortable with the return of sadface. A losing season in 2012 probably puts him and Gene out of work. :ace

First, no one knows if Spaz is back or not. Getting ass raped by ND will result in his instant canning.
Second, if he comes back and we suck again, both Gene and Spaz are gone. I can pretty much guarantee that. 5-7 or worse in 2012 results in a complete top-bottom purge of Yawkey.
Third, Montel ain't playing for BC with Spaz. Now... I agree he needs to come back to make a run at the NFL. But, he'll do it for Wisconsin ala RussWil.
Fourth, wouldn't be surprised if Chase takes his redshirt and transfers.

If Spaz comes back after this season then the problem isn't Gene, it's the BOT. We would officially know they don't care about football, or at least know they consider a 5 - 8 million dollar outlay for the payout/new regime so backbreaking that it isn't worth it to can him.

Good point on Montel. I always forget that rule.

Agree on Chase. If he can get someone to see his talent and transfer to a BCS school, he should leave. If it's to a lower program he should stay. Have to believe there are BCS schools that would like to give that arm a shot.

I am not ready to put this on the BOT. Gene is the AD, has been with BC since 1997 and has basically put all of his goodwill out there to support the return of Spaz. The BOT just is not prepared to make a move on both Gene and Spaz this year which is what would be required to fire sadface. Gene is basically guaranteeing this was a 1 year blip and although many of us know differently the BOT is inclined to see it through. I have been saying this for a long time, Gene for whatever his reasons has tied his future to luigi. You will know the BOT is worthless if we are having this exact same conversation next year where we are having a losing season, Gene is guaranteeing Spaz is back in 2013 no matter what happens and Spaz is talking about how he hopes to see some celebs at the Urth Cafe in Beverly Hills come early September 2013. :ace

The BOT is he problem They don't get a pass. They are the reason why GDF has been able to rule unhinged all these years. They are just now starting to realize the walking disaster that he is. A normal BOT would've been aware of that he is full of fail and this year would've been the last straw. But, when you have someone like marineagle as a Trustee (who only cares about BC sports to the extent that it offers an excuse to visit White Mountain Creamery), this is what you get.

Anyone thinking we've got a shot to turn this around next year sans Kuechly, Harris, and possibly Rettig is insane. Forget for a moment that this team and its coaching are god awful and just consider the schedule. The only difference in conference is that we're dropping Duke and adding Georgia Tech (on the road)...so that's another automatic loss. We'll have a legit shot to go ofer in conference.

Bank on non conference losses to Northwestern and Notre Dame as well. Even Army won't be a pushover as it requires DISCIPLINE to play them, something this team lacks in spades. Maine looks like the only guarantee on the schedule and I think they're 7-2 in FCS play this year and took Pitt to the wire.

1-11 is on the table.
