Coach Spaziani Talking Points

Postby ObserverCollege on Sun Oct 30, 2011 9:39 pm

I have the latest talking points for all fellow supporters of Coach Spaziani (aka "True Eagles"). Coach Spaziani thinks outside the box, a sort of "Stableford" in the world of match play lemmings. Let the "wins" go to people who think an idiosyncratic result at the end of the 60th minute matters. Coach Spaziani focuses on winning the majority of minutes his team plays. So FSU and ND get wins they need, ESPN gets pumped up glamour teams, and Coach Spaziani can look past the uselessness of his squad and guide his players to winning performances even though they are losers Jags brought in.

If you do the math, you'll realize the excellence of Coach Spaziani's coaching in the face of the disastrous hand Jags left him. He's managed the following:

* Northwestern: Won 33 of the 60 minutes in that game.
* UCF: Won the first 21 minutes.
* Duke: Won 59 minutes, and would have won 60 if Freese hadn't blown the kick.
* UMass: Managed a perfect game, winning all 60 minutes.
* Wake: Won 34 minutes--spanning the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters.
* Clemson: Won 12 minutes in the #12 team in the country's stadium.
* Virginia Tech: Fabulous performance, winning 32 minutes in LANE STADIUM!!!
* Maryland: A second perfect game, winning all 60 minutes in a testament to this Coaching Staff. Game balls to Coaches Devine, Spaziani, and, of course, DeFilippo.

So Boston College has played a total of 480 minutes on the season. Coach Spaziani has won 311 of those minutes, for a Spaziani winning percentage of .648. As you know, that translates to a winning time percentage (aka "WTP") of .648. Over a 12 game schedule, that leads to 7.78 wins, or 8 wins against 4 losses. That is a typical season for Boston College.

Just so you understand, when Jagodzinski took credit for "winning" against Virginia Tech in Lane Stadium, he in fact only won 2 minutes out of 60, for a WTP of .033. It's the same story over the rest of that schedule:

* Wake: O'Brien and Spaziani's products won the last 25 minutes; Jagodzinski lost the first 35.
* NC State: Against a team in transition, O'Brien and Spaziani's products won 41 minutes. Jagodzinski lost the first 16 minutes, and the last 3.
* Georgia Tech: O'Brien and Spaziani's products won 45 minutes despite Jagodzinski, who lost the entire 4th quarter.
* Army: O'Brien and Spaziani's products were held to winning just 37 minutes, as Jagodzinski lost 17 minutes across the 2nd & 3rd quarters, and another 6 spanning the 3rd/4th quarters.
* Massachusetts: Jagodzinski failed to show up, losing the entire 2nd half (=30 minutes) to a FCS team!!!
* Bowling Green: Even as O'Brien and Spaziani's products dropped 55 points on Bowling Green, Jagodzinski lost the first 7 minutes and the entire 4th quarter, holding O'Brien and Spaziani's products to a mere 38 minutes of victory.
* Notre Dame: Similar theme--O'Brien and Spaziani's products won the first 39 minutes, then Jagodzinski stabbed them in the back over the final 21.
* Virginia Tech: Jagodzinski lost the first 58 minutes, while Dana Bible protege Matt Ryan remembered what he learned from the Guru of the NFL Practice Squad and pulled out the last 2 minutes.
* FSU: Jagodzinski lost all 60 minutes in another embarrassment.
* Maryland: Despite the herculean efforts of O'Brien and Spaziani's products, Jagodzinski still lost 52 minutes of this game.
* Clemson: After Jagodzinski lost the first 51 minutes, gut-check out of O'Brien and Spaziani's products to pull out nine minutes of success.
* Miami: Jagodzinski lost 19 minutes to blemish what should have been a perfect game.
* Virginia Tech rematch: Jagodzinski could only salvage 21 minutes of victory against 39 of defeat.

So over the "successful" 2007 season, we see the handcuffs Jagodzinski clamped on O'Brien and Spaziani's proteges. Jagodzinski could only win 336 minutes over a 780 minute schedule, for a WTP of .431. Over a 12 game schedule, that translates to 5.2 wins, or a 5 wins against 7 losses record.

With far less talent at his disposal thanks to Jagodzinski's failures and abusive practices (see extra game weeks in 2007 and 2008), Coach Spaziani has still led his team to an 8-4 record in WTP terms. Against a 5-7 record for Jagodzinski.

And this 8-4 record with players still 3 years away from their peak!!!

The future is bright in Chestnut Hill, my friends. The future is bright indeed!!!
Shake down the Thunder!!!
