The catfishing trend has officially transitioned from the dating sphere to college football recruiting.

Houshun Gaines, a three-star defensive end recruit from North Carolin's Nash Central High School, formally announced last week his commitment to attend Florida.

The only problem? He didn't actually have an offer from the Gators.
....

Gaines does have real offers from a handful of schools including Miami, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Boston College.

This kid really needs to be going to Notre Dame.

Wimbush from SPP just flipped from PSU to ND. Would have been great in Daz's system.

ND is going to have a really good problem at QB for the foreseeable future. I believe Golson has one more year and they have Malik Zaire, Deshone Kizer and now Wimbush sitting on the roster

Awful. If you are going to cheat that's one thing, but to embarrass the guy so publicly and show you are trash is awful.

Ohio St stopped by to see Jeff Smith apparently to gauge his interest in playing CB but he stayed true to BC.

Again... Urban continues to uses Daz as his primary scout.

I have no idea what position Smith will end up playing at BC. But, his numbers this year (against good comp) is straight up redonkulous.

Watching how they use Murphy I'm really happy with these two QB's coming in. Smith and Robinson could of had been the top athlete in those Spaz classes, and these guys play Quarterback. I wonder if he will bring in another 5th year guy or just let it ride with Wade, Smith, and Robinson.

It would be a shame and just plain poor business to lose Addazio to any school over money. This program is heading in the right direction fast.

Daz has recruited about where I thought he would and has coached 10 times better than I could have imagined. That said... I'm fine if he leaves. I will never understand the fear folks have about losing coaches. If you have a once in a lifetime guy like Coughlin... fine. But, outside of that, I couldn't care less if we were hiring new coaches every 4 years.

provided we have someone competent hiring...

thus far the master is 1 for 1 on football

daz has been better than i could've imagined. mixing very good recruiting (which we thought we were getting) + good in game (which we didn't) + incredibly valuable 5th years which were necessary to try to plug the gaping holes thanks to spaz

his work on the OL has been incredibly impressive as well. this was a group before he came here that couldn't even line up correctly

HJS: the flameout rate for these coaches is too high. Especially when you consider that BC has historically paid under market rate for coaches, losing Dazz and hoping to find a qualified successor carries an enormous risk. Remember the overwhelming majority of this board wanted Diaco before Dazz

This. Obviously, I would rather have a successful coach who then leaves as opposed to a Spaz, but when we have a good one, let's try our best to keep him.

Agree with Hingham and Militant, especially about hiring being a crapshoot for several reasons. As much as I might hate to admit it, we would probably have been better off -- financially and in terms of wins -- if we had instead kept TOB over the Jags/Spaz years. On balance.

We'd have better recruits on the team right now and wouldn't still be paying idiot bucks to Spaz. Our stinginess has been well rewarded. But it is admittedly a lesser factor than (GDF's) outright stupidity.

Obviously, there's a lot more to be said on this complex topic, but I'll leave it there.

I actually think Daz could be a once in a lifetime guy for this school... in his second year, which most thought was going to be an absolute disaster, he has us at 4-2 well on our way to another bowl game. i honestly feel right now like we can beat anyone in the conference on any given saturday with FSU being the exception. as we continue to add more of his players into the system, we will be back to where we were and hopefully winning our first ACC title and more.

Maybe I am delusional, but I think we can beat FSU if we play great. Why not? They lost a lot of talent from last year and I think they are beatable. :chewbanka

Ha! #gallopinggarf

I agree with HJS in theory on the new coach every 4 years. At BC, however, the guy coming in after a failure like Henning or Spaz needs more that 4 years to rebuild the program. If Addazio were to leave in 4 years, he will have done a good job getting the talent back to where it needs to be, but he may not get to see the benefits of that. And then you have to worry about systems and the like.

That said, for the right fit at coach, I think BC pays.
