No, if BC doesn't kill WF it is bad.

I’m going to downplay my traditional game day attire because I feel I will be embarrassed for wake throughout the majority of this game

Fair enough. And I agree. But I just want them to win. I don't care how they do it, just win.

Little things like managing the clock perfectly on the final series yesterday and not making a spectacle of himself after every penalty or screw-up got me thinking: has Daz progressed from a miserable gameday coach to a mediocre gameday coach? I mean, when was the last remarkable in-game blunder we saw from him? He's even better managing the time outs, which is still so remarkable how stupidly he managed the first few years.

He was pretty calm and composed after the blocked punt - TD. Anyone know what he was so upset about in garbage time of the UMass game?

I had written him off as incapable of learning and by even doubting that now he will prove us wrong again but so far he's been pretty calm and I agree he managed last night decently from a game-management perspective. Had a few chances to lose it last night and didn't. Although really the blocked punt being the biggest issue and he wasn't likely surprised given the shitshow vs Holy Cross for the punting unit.

Game management becomes less of an issue when leading by wide margins. If he can continue to recruit well, people will be less judgmental regarding game management.

No. Two reasons:

1) This is a routine thing in a routine game - you're saying "he's improved!" but in fact he never should have sucked at it in the first place.
B) Why would you assess the quality of a coach against this Wake team? We find out what kind of a coach he is when lots of things matter in a big game where lots of things matter. This wasn't it. This is like saying a porn star "can act" because he got out his two lines before the music kicks in.

Ceterum censeo this assclown and ceterum censeo this awful assclown thread.

When was the last time Daz really bungled a major game management issue?

I don't get the Never-Daz people. I'm not saying you have to be sold on him, but too many of you are stuck in 2015.

As long as the talent level stays this good I'm willing to live with it, but Daz will never even be a mediocre game day coach.

That game was a travesty. Would've been a travesty with the right shoes.

IN my view, football coaches are stubborn and arrogant, and often put on personas that are even more stubborn and arrogant than even they are internally, because somehow they think is essential to leading men and so forth. This collection of attributes also makes coaches very frail (which is why even accomplished and excellent coaches - the Sabans and Belichicks and Parcells - often have major problems with reporters and media; they aren't accustomed to being questioned, especially about what they do poorly).

Coaches don't really admit mistakes and don't often learn from their own mistakes; as such, coaches really only change when they change jobs. Sometimes not even then.

This whole 'Daz has learned and changed' narrative is a pile of horseshit - Daz is exactly what he was before and he will revert to it again. Solid at things like evaluating talent, recruiting, and WWF ring-entrances while cranking Nickelback and the Pointer Sisters, etc; terrible at tactical game day decisions and risk assessment. He has been playing to his strengths for much of the past, say 10 games and it works because the team reflects those strengths. When coaches have a team that reflects their strengths, it minimizes the amount of critical decisions and adjustments they have to make - thus the legend of the 'genius coach' is born. Really none of these guys are geniuses - the ones who can plan well and accrue talent and coaching that executes on the planning will win shit tons of games. But it's mostly about preparation and patience at every level.

At some point in this season, Daz will be challenged out of his comfort zone, will have to make a decision, and he will do some dumb donkey crap move like he has done in the past with time or game or personnel management, and on that day, the fries will march into the ketchup like so many lemmings stepping steadfastly towards the cliff.

The ACC is actually vulnerable this year and I would be wearing my 10-2 t shirt if, say, Steve Logan was at the controls. Daz is kind of a bald Moe Howard.

while i do agree that a leopard doesn't change his spots, he does get credit (or whoever is managing it gets credit) for the aggressiveness on 4th down. there was a stat that bc was top 5 (iirc) in going for it on 4th down last year, a far cry from punting from FSU's 39 like he did in 2015

He goes for it on fourth down because his field goal kickers are awful

I laughed.

When you favor a rushing attack, I think you are put into a lot more fourth down situations than if you had a passing attack so you are almost forced to go for it more often. I actually think statistics favors going for it on fourth down in most cases anyway... I remember reading a study about this a couple years back. That led to some high school coach down south -- maybe in Louisiana? -- ALWAYS going for it which is probably a little extreme.

Then again, if you have AJ Dillon as you back, probably makes sense to go for it in many cases... provided that you aren't doing a slow executing counter sweep to the boundary play. Not that Daz has ever done that before or anything.

There's a lot in here that people on these boards would normally like. Respect for accomplishments of the past, but enthusiasm for all the accomplishments yet to be achieved (i.e. championships). Lots of talk about developing "BC men." And it seems like the "Win the opener and get bowl eligible" goals has been replaced with an ACC Championship.

I don't give a rat's ass about how he treats reporters, even student reporters. Everyone knows he's a thinskinned blowhard, including he reporters. If it upsets them, they should join the play. I get annoyed when he is swearing at a ref or one of his players on national TV on the field and he himself is the most incompetant moron in the stadium.

A column went up on The Heights website crediting Loeffler for the offense's turnaround, particularly when he took over playcalling duties last year.

The column was taken off The Heights website after a few hours and word got around that Meatbaum pressured the author to take the column down.

Meatbaum responded to the accusations on Twitter, saying that he told the author that the column was factually incorrect but had nothing to do with the article being taken off the website.

You spun that story into something it wasn't. Not to mention it is inaccurate. He called plays for the Towles team. The illusion that they miraculously turned it on because loeffler took over is a farce. They turned it around when they went up tempo and inserted Dillon
