angrychicken {l Wrote}:I think you people need to let go of the notion that the BC head coach has to be a "northeast" guy. Sad.

Saying Tobie and Jigsie were "northeast" coaches means that anyone with a 2-hour lay-over at Logan would also apply. The only coaches post-Bicknell that were truly "local" were Spaz and Daz.

We should just let Eddie Fogler pick the coach. He did so well with basketball.

This topic has been in a few threads can we consolidate and have one thread dedicated to new Head Coach?

Here are some I would consider relatively legit candidates:

-Jags
-Schiano
-Doug Marrone
-Randy Esdall
-Mark Whipple
-Mike Sanford
-Tim/Matt Hasselbeck
-Matt Thule
-Scottie Montgomery

Yeacch.

What about Willie Taggart at USF. Stanford/Harbaugh background. HC at two diff places, big turnarounds at both WKU and USF

Not that we'll be lucky enough to see Sgt Asshat get canned this year, but one name I'd put on the list is Jeff Brohm.

Pros:
-45 yrs old
-Offensive background and protege of Petrino
-Recruiting connections to OH, GA, and FL
-22-8 at Western Kentucky
-May be affordable

Cons:
-Only his 3rd year as a HC and No experience as a P5 HC
-Being a protege of Petrino, he may put his wang in a co-ed, crash a bike, and be a human punchline in a neckbrace
-Little experience recruiting with or against the big boys
-Could be a job hopper
-No real recruiting ties to the Northeast

I don't think that is really a Con. He will be in his 5th or 6th year as a head coach by the time we are next doing a coaching search. But, he will be getting a little long in the tooth at 48.

Con: Brother of Brian Brohm

There are going to be a lot of distraction to the team as everyone asks him why his brother is a terrible quarterback instead of awesome like BC alum Matt Ryan.

Yeah, Brian Brohm didn't do shit in the NFL. Apparently, he's QB coach at WKU now.

He got beat out by Matt Flynn, drafted 5 rounds after him.

Nice to see our tire coach taking it to the hippies and their non-fossil-fuel modes of transportation. Btw... 7am... Wonder how busy Yawkey is at that time.

This is much more along the lines of what BC should be looking for in the their next coach, provided the necessary commitment is being made to the program by the administration. If not, just hire Day or Whipple, fire them after 5 uninspiring seasons and hope Leahy retires or dies in the interim. Repeat.

Bill Snyder came back and is older than TC...But I can't imagine his ego would let him go from the NYG to BC - the worst P5 job in the country - and in a location where Belichick gets all the press.

I would think of it as him "coming home." He could hire his son in law as O-line coach. I guarantee you, alums would be excited.

I get it, it would be among other things, very positive publicity and even the BC athletic's department couldn't mess up the initial PR buzz, but it would be incredibly short term and I'm not at all excited about any head coach in waiting scenario that might follow.

Yes, but if you hire someone who is 70+ you know it is definitively short term, which greatly increases the head coach in waiting possibility. I am 100% fine with stepping stone coaches, so long as we don't go reactionary when they leave, but hiring someone you actually know without question is going to be very short term has some additional issues. Like head coach in waiting dan henning.

You serious Clark? You don't get the interest in a guy who out-coached Belichick in order to earn two Super Bowl victories and had some success at BC including the program's best win in the last, I don't know, 50 years?

How long could you realistically expect TC to be here?
