:kudos to Bob Griese for his candor last week, as reported by the Deseret News via the Big Lead: http://thebiglead.com/?p=21558#comments

‘You know, everything won’t be right in the scheme of things in college football until Notre Dame gets back and Michigan gets back and all the powers that used to be get back to where they were.’

This is the problem with college football... there's no such thing as upward mobility. It's a freakin' entrenched aristocracy. The whole "FSU and Miami aren't good so the ACC can't be good" is a perfect example of that. The traditional programs are the only teams that can be highly regarded, and every else is just... everyone else. It's pretty obvious that the ACC was cringing when we made the championship two years in a row.

Not that it really matters. I just want to win, reputation or membership in the Old Boys Club be damned.

If any of FSU, VT, Teh Clem, or UM can push into the Top 5-10 rankings, then the pundits will be saying the ACC is back. Who gives a crap that the remaining 8 teams are mediocre or suck. They'll be especially excited if it's UM or FSU.
