Gameday/donation Boycott

Postby bcnyceagle on Fri Sep 16, 2011 9:04 am

So, at what point will you reach the conclusion that the only way to save this program is to boycott games and stop sending donations (or direct them away from the Flynn Fund)? I know many fans have already have stopped going to games (either out of embarrassment, apathy, or frustration) or donating, but at what point would you be willing to endorse collective action and start believing that BC fans SHOULD stop going/donating? Duke loss? Umass loss? Never?

In my email to :pickle , my last sentence was along the lines of:

As a donor and season ticket holder, if Spaz is the head coach at Boston College, I won't be there.

As for this season, my main reservation of boycotting is that it isn't the players' fault that :spaz is in over his head. Already paid for parking pass and will use it as an outlet to catch up with friends.

Maybe :shock can use some of the hefty google bucks to have fire spaz shirts made.

I've been considering this, too, but they will be "Fire Gene DeFilippo" shirts if I do it. But I have the following concerns:
1) BCPD and the storm troopers giving me a hard time because I need a "license" or some crap like that. Note, I would be giving the shirts away, not selling them, so I'm not sure if this fear is warranted.
2) Gene's minions spotting me, tipping off BCPD, and getting escorted out of the game in front of my step-kids, followed by a lifetime ban from Alumni Stadium. That would not be worth it.
3) Being identified and/or approached by you juvenile immature axxholes.

There were "Fire TOB" shirts around Alumni back in 05-06 (both printed t-shirts and football/hockey jerseys altered with masking tape) and I don't know of anyone getting kicked out, but that was a different, less paranoid time.

I won't stop going to games because the players deserve our support and because it's an excuse to catch up with friends and get drunk in the middle of the day.

Exactly. Gene probably would have worn one himself back in those days.

Edit - And for the record, I won't boycott the games because I want to support the players.

I hear you. But as others have said its not a very nice thing to do to the players. Also, its probably unnecessary because the casual fans will stop showing up on their own due to the crappiness of play and there's more of them.

Likely can't use his name without drawing attention, but I would find it hard to imagine Coach Flip is off limits.

You could probably even put the web address on the shirts - firecoachflip.com - maybe draw some of the people who sit through tomorrow's shitshow to this site.

Unfortunately that points to the site I never finished when we reeled off that season saving 5 game winning streak last year.

That could easily be remedied, no?

EDIT: not by building out the website, I meant you could probably easily point the address at the main page of this forum.

I agree - we don't need a boycott. It would be like boycotting a restaurant that has recurring salmonella outbreaks.

Generally speaking, most people/organizations don't respond to the threat of losing money, just to actually losing money. However, it's a personal choice to how you handle the current situation at BC and I don't think any kind of organized "boycott" would be effective considering many of the academics would love nothing more than BC to be playing URI, Maine, NH, Holy Cross in front of 15000 every week. On the bright side, there would probably be plenty of tailgating spots available cheap!
