Ok, I'll bite. As a threshold matter, the Yankees operate a business and a ballclub, which is how you justify Jeter(tm)'s contract. It is without question a bad baseball contract. There is no defense for ARod and Burnett- just awful. I disagree on Tex though. He plays a very low impact position (exceptionally well) that traditionally has the longest period of longevity. He's got a swing made for that ballpark too, so he's probably worth more to then Yankees than any other team. As for CC, I think you're fixated on his weight and ignoring the fact that he relies on his lower half much more than his arm and pitchers tend to age from the shoulders down (and he recovered rather easily from his minor off season knee surgery). Is it a risk? Sure. But he's showing no signs of deterioration at this point.

We are in agreement on the Jeter, ARod, & AJ issues.

For Teixeira it wasn't until this year when I really started seeing his downfall. Obviously he plays an excellent 1st base (maybe one of the best in the league). But look at his stats for the last 4 seasons:

2008: .308 33 121 OPS: .962
2009: .292 39 112 OPS: .948
2010: .256 33 108 OPS: .846
2011: .243 28 76 OPS: .848

It's pretty clear he's trending down.

Just look at his home/road splits this year:
H: .249 19 52 OPS: .933
R: .238 9 24 OPS: .760

By "swing made for that park" you mean a swing period. Sometimes it looks like I could hit my lob wedge out of there.

I agree.

Burnett was a gamble they took and lost.

The A-Rod contract is bad, but it guarantees the Yanks a place in his chase for the career HR record. The contract is worth it in the long run if he gets the record.

Tex's percentages are down, but he's still hitting the long ball, driving in runs, playing great defense, and staying off the DL. If the Yanks put him on waivers, a big market club would claim him and the remainder of his contract.

Sabathia's body is built to last playing that position. As you said, his power is generated from his legs, and his body reminds me a lot of Clemens' (we'll ignore the PED angle in that analogy). As long as there's no sign of arm trouble, I think he is as low-risk an investment as there can be for an MLB pitcher.
