Yes, I was counting Choo at 20 or so and Soriano at 3-5 - squeaking out 10 is more likely than that .280 BA you threw out, but still not likely.
Where else are your steals going to come from? Middle IF gets you about 30. Choo 20-25. Joyce is good for 15-20 (maybe). Beltran ain't running anywhere anymore.
In a 12 team league there are certain stats you must sacrifice. I'd rather concede steals than have Gardner dragging down 3 other categories and simply being equal in runs scored. If Joyce and Choo play all season without getting hurt they will both be in the ballpark of the 85 or so that Gardner will score. If he were leading off and hitting in front of Granderson, Tex and Arod or he was walking at all or hitting over .270, I might sacrifice his abysmal OPS for the steals and what would be 100 runs. Hitting at the bottom of the order and not getting on base, I see him being the front end of a lot of Derek Jeter DPs.
I'm actually more excited about the potential of his twin, Bourjos. He's got the potential to be a top of the order guy in a great lineup. May not be this season though, which leads me again to my major problem - all my OFs are on the way up or the way down. Just hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with 2 of them. Maybe Beltran and Choo, although Joyce is going to be a big stick one of these seasons.
