Yankees pleading the 5th -- and 4th
February, 21, 2011

OlneyTAMPA, Fla. -- The international sign for good pitch is a catcher jabbing his glove hand toward the mound, and time and again on Sunday morning, a glove was aimed at Manuel Banuelos, a left-hander who is in the Yankees' camp as a non-roster invitee and had his turn at throwing batting practice to hitters.

Banuelos doesn't turn 20 for a few weeks, and yet he already has a sharp breaking ball that can freeze left-handed hitters and a changeup that fades away from right-handers. His 2010 season was wrecked, at the outset, by appendicitis, and by summer's end he had pitched in only 15 games. But he threw well in those, striking out 84 in 64.2 innings, posting a 2.51 ERA, and he emotes an air of confidence -- he has presence, to use the scouts' term

I put my fatwaboy on the Mets and Minaya ---and like the rest, my track record is beyond lethal.

WOW:

The amount owed to Perez ranks near the top of the unofficial list of largest contracts eaten in organization history, with Castillo also high on the list. Perez is No. 1 in terms of outright money owed; however, Bobby Bonilla worked out a deal that eclipses $12 million.

When the Mets cut bait with Bonilla after the 1999 season, they were on the hook for $5.9 million. Instead, the Mets agreed to pay Bonilla $29.8 million between 2011 and 2035. Those annual $1,193,248.20 payments begin July 1.

The Mets also have eaten:

Castillo $6M

• $9 million of $10 million owed to outfielder Roger Cedeno when they sent him to the St. Louis Cardinals at the end of spring training in 2004.

• $4.5 million when they sent infielder Kazuo Matsui to the Colorado Rockies in 2006.

• $3.75 million when they traded second baseman Roberto Alomar to the Chicago White Sox in 2003.

BCEagle74 {l Wrote}:Zach Duke was once a top lefty...nice move by Zona....

Jeter is still insane... a $7M or less player getting $15 for 3.... a bonus $30M.

I would bring back Fred Stanley.

Derek is simply lost contact with spaceship earth. WTF would pay him more than $8M and more than 2 years?

$35M flushed by Hank.

Cashman was right.

BCEagle74 {l Wrote}:The Brewers need to trade Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers for a boatload of prospects.

Perfect match.

Ranger need first baseman and can sent Young at $18M or combo or prospects.

Boras?

Please that kid is so gone from Milwaukee even if they won the World Series.

I wonder if good ole Tex still thinks the Brewers would have been better off trading Prince Fielder? :dildodog

That's a hang wiff'em!
