ha. "Lose Wood". Just like HJS did when he found out Suntrup wasn't decommitting.

Wood was solid as a rock in most situations.

Cashman made a boo-boo.

This is a great signing. They are a lefty away from being world series favorites, although they probably already are.

But the Phillies have the best rotation since Jesus, Moses, Noah, David, and Isaac took the field against the Diablos Rojos del México!

Jesus -- Great fastball, could not change speeds well. God complex in locker room.
Moses -- Wet ball pitcher ever since he crossed dry Rio Grande into Texas.
Noah -- Had all the pitch variations, but went on DL 40 days at a time.
David -- Great talent, too many night before starts chasing women
Isaac -- Great stopper. Good slider and country fastball.

I think SP is what's holding it back.

Lester is a 1.
Bucholtz just doubled his innings up to 173 -how will he bounce back?
Is Beckett 2009 or 2010?
Does Lackey rebound?
Can Dice K get back on track?

At times Lester changing speeds and control and his pitches were the best in baseball last year. Like Lee in playoffs before WS. Lester faces AL East and not AL-W-eak-est.

When Lester becomes a free agent 2015.....unless he gets a new contract...he will get Lee money.

4 years is a long time and Sox made a nice deal.

Lester gets $1 million this year, $3.75 million in 2010, $5.75 million in 2011, $7,625,000 in 2012 and $11,625,000 in 2013. Boston has a $13 million option for 2014 with a $250,000 buyout.

I still say Theo ain't done yet. Jenks is in... and maybe one more pen lefty?

After failing to sign Lee and losing Kerry Wood, the Yankees have successfully gone to their backup plan: Mark Prior.

Sometimes after rotator cuff or Tommy surgery it takes 2 seasons or 2.5 to rebuild and get back the mojo.

If Prior was healthy and sound, and he works out now to build strength, who knows anything.

Burketthas a new pitching coach guru, Sabathia had his knee scoped but could stand to lose 40, Pettitte to me was way better than I expected last year and his post season is always solid, but this guy is now always wanting retirement and how long can he be a playoff stud, Hughes cab throw 95+ and he may get to the next playoff level and is a future foundation guy, Ivan Nova has to make a move like Prior.

I thought Wood was solid and Cashman was foolish if was willing to spend $160M on Lee and not $3M-$4M more or Cubs money for Kerry...just plain stubborn stupid.

Joba is a Nuke Laloosh and lately his fastball is getting rocked. They need to package this goofy putz up and get a lefty reliever.

I would look at Brad Penny, Carl Pavano :laugh for 1 + option loaded deals for $12M/1.

Then again Rafael Soriano is still out there???

Strange...Mariano is 42 at seasons end? How long can he be almost lights out and even as an overpaid set-up man he provides insurance for Rivera, or in fact a better closer. 70+ saves in 2 years???

Yankee outfield is weak and could blow up. How do you spend $81M on two guys 37 and 41 in Jeter and Rivera who are sliding fast????

Marcum and Grienke... they get some hits and the rest of that staff, they may contend, but Fielder needs to be traded or signed.

I say put Texiera in the outfield. Yankee outfield with swisher, granderson and a wrist injured Gardner is piddlin'.

In the deal, the Royals are reportedly acquiring Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain, shortstop Alcides Escobar and pitching prospects Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress for the 27-year-old Greinke, 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA in 2010 after winning the 2009 Cy Young.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore had been actively shopping for major league-ready, up-the-middle position players for Greinke.

The Brewers were expected to receive another major leaguer in the deal. Jim Breem of the blog "Bernie's Crew" reported that player to be shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt.

Brandon Webb

Surprised no one took any big time interest?

He knows Ranger pitching coaches and he was Cy Young 06 and runner-up 07-08????

The second year summer is when rotaor cuff guys usually comeback?

Could be a huge addd for TX!

Rhodes is also a durable lefty arm.

Boston and Texas did well.

Adrian Beltre --makes Young tradeable for a pitcher.

RED SOX
RANGERS
WHITE SOX

Wild Card:

YANKEES

The Red Sox made two beautiful moves with Gonzalez and Crawford and kept the best pitching staff of starters and added well to the bullpen. A+++

The Yankees missed out on Lee, and have lost of question marks and age issues. D

The Rangers get a couple of young pitchers to come thru --- and they will challenge Boston. B

White Sox third. Dunn was my guy in the FA deal. Sox have pitching just shy of Boston. B

NL:

Phillies

Cashman listened to the HGAW.

Yankees still have outfield power issues. They should sign Thome and stick Posada out there like a sore thumb playing outfield with a piano on his back.

Yankees have slid.

Pitching, Outfield.... Maybe the rookies come through?

Not that they're going to win tons of games with their young, inconsistent pitching, but the following lineup doesn't look half bad

2B Roberts
CF Jones
RF Markakis
1B Lee
3B Reynolds
DH Scott
C Wieters
SS Hardy
LF Pie/Reimhold (I prefer the latter)

The aquisition of Kevin Gregg was also big - but not enough to cover up the gaping holes in the pitchnig staff. Matusz is going to be a stud and Bergeson and Tillman are coming along, but Guthrie is only OK. The lack of depth, experience, and upper echelon arms is a recipe for continuing the below average trend of the club. But, they aren't that far away from where people in the AL East may want to care (in a "keep another team out of the playoffs" way, not a "taking your spot in the playoffs" way).

I'm curious to see if that team can approach the team strikeout record. I guess a lot depends on whether or not Mark Reynolds can stay healthy this year. Gonna be a lot of swings and misses this year, especially in the AL East.

The record is 1,529 set by the 2010 Diamondbacks. I'd say they have a chance in such a strong pitching division, but without pitchers hitting and with guys like Roberts, Jones, Markakis, Hardy, and Wieters being at least above average contact hitters, I highly doubt it.

Well at least Scott and Reynolds are going to be a lethal 1-2 in that category. Batting them back-to-back is going to create a ton of HRs and Ks with pretty much nothing in between.

This also reminded me that Luke Scott is a birther that doesn't think Obama has a birth certificate. And for that I am thankful.
