Beltre must have better deal coming? Ortiz Next?

Red Sox should decline Ortiz and go after Carl Crawford or Soriano.

Adam Dunn too...same as Yankees.

Adrian Beltre becomes free agent

BOSTON -- Adrian Beltre has declined a $10 million player option that would have kept him with the Boston Red Sox next year.

The third baseman will get a $1 million buyout and becomes a free agent after just one season with the Red Sox.

The 31-year-old Beltre led the team with a .321 batting average and a career-high 49 doubles in 154 games. He hit 28 homers and tied David Ortiz for the team lead with 102 RBIs. The option increased from $5 million to $10 million in his last game because he passed the 640 plate appearances.

Boston signed him as a free agent after he hit .265 with eight homers and 44 RBIs with Seattle in 2009.

The Red Sox must decide by Thursday whether to exercise Ortiz's $12.5 million club option.

Dunn doesn't want to play DH. Wouldn't be surprised if he stays with the Natinals.

And the Sox are going to go after Crawford regardless.

Errors aside I’d rather have Beltre in a Sox uniform. Ortiz 12mil OUCH!!!! Talk about not worth your weight in gold. Ellsbury or no Ellsbury, Crawford will be in a Sox uniform next year

Beltre is one of the best defensive 3B in the league. Errors are very misleading in that respect as he can get to more ball and make an attempt to play them than, say, a Mike Lowell who couldn't move after his hip surgery in 2008 though gets a lot of what comes to him.
