You have to give the referee some credit here though. He's not putting up with it, and is telling the players to get the fuck up while they're writhing on the ground "in pain" and extended the stoppage time because of it. It's actually funny.

There is. Totti got sent off for Italy in 2002 in the quarters because he already had a yellow and the ref gave him his second on a very dubious diving call. Just one of the several bullshit calls that went South Korea's way against Italy and Spain that year.

8 years ago? Fuck that. There should probably have been over 100 diving calls already in this World Cup. They have the provision in most of the major US Sports by now, and it deters the fakers. Hockey is a pretty good example, although there will always be embellishment and or some variation of faking the receipt of a penalty. If the fucking refs just called it as is, this shit would diminish quickly.

How about the bullshit yellow card the goalie got after the Italian player flopped backwards writhing in pain holding his face? The pussy didn't even get touched, or if he did, he was grazed.
