Fine, esp if its a close game and you need only a run or 2 to tie it up.

It's bush to expect the other team to stop trying for a win just so the opposing pitcher can achieve something semi-rare. Curt Schilling's temper-tantrum when that happened to him in Arizona was obnoxious but, after getting hear alot more of him when he joined the Sox, was in retrospect perfectly predictable.

If the bunt is an attempt to win a baseball game that is still in reach, no problem with it. If you do it for no other reason than to break up a guys no-hitter, expect one in the ear hole. For example, down 5-6 runs in the 9th. Bush.

right - it'd be similar to vinny letting strahan tackle him just to set the record :dildodog

That was just Favre loving the game, playing like it was one of his school yard buddies out there, looking to set the school record.

The other team should do everything it can to legitimately end a no hitter including bunting in the ninth when down by nine runs if that is their best chance of getting a guy on base. Otherwise you diminish the accomplishment and specialness. Hell, the other team should be humiliated by being no hit.

The point is to win, not to not get no hit. Bunting for a hit down 9 runs in the ninth would be retarded if you weren't being no hit. Hence, it is bush league when you are being ho hit.

you play the game first and foremost to win but then you play it for pride. i have no problem with a team down by 9 runs bunting if they want to. that said, i don't think most MLB players these days have the balls to do it.

TobaccoRoadEagle {l Wrote}:how about if the bunter (on the team down by 9) has a 32 game hitting streak and wants to try to continue it by advancing to first base using bunting techniques and SPEEEEEEEEED.

split THAT baby, solomon

He should have bunted in the first inning, when his team was still in the game.

so he should bunt in his first at-bat of every game?!?!?! come on, man - your better at addressing ridiculous hypotheticals than that

Bunting to preserve a hit streak when your team is down 9 is just as bush league as bunting to beat a no-hitter when down nine. Maybe slightly less so, but it certainly warrants a fastball in the ear hole.

If I was pitching in the ninth inning with a 9-run lead, and you squared to drop one down to preserve your hit streak, you would be headed to first 3 seconds later - but not with a hit.

The whole playing for pride while losing by 9 runs thing is a joke too. If the pitching team was down 9 runs, but the batter had a 55-game hit streak, would it be okay to intentionally walk him to make sure he didn't tie the streak against you?
