Miraculously, he could be back for the World Cup.

Reading the extent of his injuries and procedures, it's amazing that he's training already. The description includes the phrase "peeled his face off."

Unbelievable. Hard work and determination can do wonders. Great news, and here's hoping he makes it back in a hurry, better than ever. The US MNT sure could use pre-accident Charlie this summer!

I love Charlie Davies but he and Herzlich are not the same.

Davies got hurt because he got into a car driven by a girl who had been drinking (he had himself as well) and were rushing back to the hotel because he was out way past his curfew for the USMNT.

Herzlich had cancer.

I wouldn't say Davies whole situation should be inspiring to us all. His recovery has been phenomenal, but he shouldn't have to be recovering.

If it's not clear that his recovery was the inspirational part I was referring to, I don't know what to tell you (and the recovery is inspirational due to the hard work and the fact that he wasn't supposed to be anywhere near ready for the Copa Mundial). There was no comparison - that was created by others.

I actually ran into Davies last week in Manhattan Beach while he was in LA for surgery on his elbow. He couldn't have been a nicer guy, and he says he expects to play in the Cup.
