Yankee Win Makes Them Team of the Decade

The Yankees would have 2 WS titles and 4 Pennants.

Philadelphia wins, they tie Boston, with 2 Titles but Boston had 2 more post season appearances to edge he Phillies as Team of the decade, if the Phillies win 3.

Yankees are 51-40 in post season play going into tonight in the decade, 86-50 in the Posada and Jeter 14 year post season deals.

Utley and Werth have two of the sweetest home run strokes since Maris and Killebrew.

As a life long Sox fan, it is difficult to "hate" the Yankees as long as they have guys like Jeter, Girardi (Torre) etc. Now, when it was back in the Pudge Fisk-Thurman Munson days, you could stir up a lot of hate back then. I hope they win.

If I was Charlie Manuel, I would pull Lee after 5 and thw W, and save him with 2 days rest in game 7.

Koufax, Gibson, Lolich.

Girardi is a moron.

You play the infield in since the pitcher is up next and Lee has to get a hit--and he did--to beat you, but at least you make the pitcher beat you?

Casey Stengel....I always look who is up next before I move my infield in to turn a 250 hitter into Ted Wiliams.

At least with the infield in, Lee gets a hit, you have a shot at the plate?

After 4 home runs, I would roll the ball to Posada and Molina.

Never let the big man beat you and I thought it was Ryan Howard --but Utley is the big man.

Walk his butt the rest of the series.

Victorino was right.Ibanez blew 3 runs and with Chan Ho "OUT OF THE" Park....

Honestly this is the most detestable Yankees team in a long time. Burnett and Swisher are the epitomes of a douche. Justin Chamberlain likes to drive drunk and fist pump. A-Rod has two pictures of himself as a centaur hanging above his bed. Posada is a little rat. The only guys I have a modicum of respect for are Jeter and Rivera.

I think there are plenty of unlikeable Yankees, but A-rod's the only one who really takes it to the next level. Every other unlikeable player(posada, swisher, teixara_(sp), In my opinion, is just a product of the winning/overspending/"mystique."

I respect the hell out of Sabathia, Rivera and Jeter. And I like Hideki Matsui because he looks like an Easter Island statue, which is funny.

If I wasn't a Phillies fan I would probably detest Victorino and Myers.

You guys don't know these people.

A-Rod dancing around the plate, whining, when his home run banked off the camera has cemented him for all time as one of my least favorite players. Its not that his protest's objective wasn't justified, he just looked like a homosexual 12 year old and deserved all three times he was plunked. His change has moved him, at best, from biggest douche in the universe status, to middle of the pack top ten athletes i wish would inject themselves with a hep c infected roid needle.

Game 6:

I think Pedro Martinez will throw a gem in Game 6 and force Game 7 and Pettitte will be roughed up.

This guy is back and for a while he was Gibson and Koufax rolled into 1.

I think Ryan Howard will hit 2 home runs.

Phillies 9 Yankees 2

Game 7:

Hamels will start and give them 4-5 good innings--or a very short leash-- and then you see Lee, Happ, Myers, Madsen and Lidge.

So goes Sabathia, so goes this game.

The Yankees need Tex to break out here or smoke Pedro.

If he can pitch around the 4 big guys, Utley, Howard, Werth and Ibanez, and limit them to solo homers, the Yankees have a chance but Rivera ain't automatic anymore.

I like Phillies pitching late better tahn the Yankees.

Rivera better have a 2-3 run lead.

This game may hinge on a sacrifice bunt blunder like 2001.

The Phillies win Game 6, the Yankees are looking at 1957 type of collapse.

Many teams have come back from 3-1 down in the World Series, since ergo, they were good teams to get there?

i did not see that, but he only signaled HR?

No matter, Utley is something else and the big story is TEX. wow what a slump.

No we don't. But I'm guessing you don't either so were on the same plane of whether or not these guys suck at life or not. I tend to think Swisher is a douche (as does many of his former White Sox teammates), that A-Rod is a headcase that likes to have himself depicted as a centaur (at least that's what one ex-girlfriend said earlier this week), and that it would've been ironic and hilarious if someone shaving cream pied Burnett last night while he was looking like he was about to cry in the dugout.

Myers hits his wife. Nothing cool about that. Utley has the Giambi "I just jumped out of a shower" look, which is weird in itself. Werth is a tool in the Scott Spezio-sense. The rest of the team is pretty innocuous. I just can't garner up much emotion for Pedro Feliz or Carlos Ruiz.

I think Arod is certifiably weird. It's not so much that he's a jerk, it's that he doesn't know how to act like a human being and instead does an awkward impression of an asshole when he tries to display emotion. It's genuinely unsettling. I think he's going to end up being like Michael Jackson-level strange when he retires.

Carlos Ruiz is outstanding, in the picture below, Werth(who may or may not kill and then eat people) is wearing a t-shirt depicting Carlos Ruiz with a wrestling belt that says Panamania on it, with a title of "don't steal"

The shirt is so weird that i can only guess that it was was made in Ruiz' native panama by some non-english speakers and is therefore incredible.

interesting article on team of the decade....
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/DF4BBC86B5C158568625764700808D71?OpenDocument

it was written prior to the playoffs so it includes the cards, angels, red sox etc. in the discussion but i recall it being interesting to see each team's claim to "team of the decade".

Do you miss Rick Schu?

No. But watching Pedro Feliz bat (except for the solo homer in game 4) makes me long for Mike Schmidt. Hell, even Scott Rolen. Anyone at 3rd who can hit in the postseason would be fine.

The Sunday night Sports Huddle on Boston radio in the 60s-80s used to end every week's show with a list of names that "said something" like I just did, and it always ended with (Baltimore Oriole) Mike Epstein.

Michael Peter Epstein (born April 4, 1943, in the Bronx, New York), nicknamed SuperJew, is a former Major League Baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Senators, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, and California Angels from 1966-1974.

i feel like i can call you chase because you and me are so much alike. i would love to meet you some day. it would be great to have a catch. i know i can't throw as fast as you, but i think you would be impressed with my speed. i love your hair. you run fast. do you have a good relationship with your father? me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. i know you have not been getting my letters because i know you would write back if you did. i hope you write back this time and we get to be good friends. i’m sure our relationship would be a real home run.

Wow. Now you're reading my secret correspondence? The colored names on this board have gone overboard once again!

Actually, I did "meet" Utley once - very briefly at a Phillies ALS research fundraiser two years ago. I took my son, and Utley could not have been cooler to him - posed for pictures, asked how his little league team was doing and what position he played, etc. It was typical fan event stuff but he did seem genuine and was great with the kids.
