under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. Except the Phillies are rolling out Pedro Martinez and Cole Hammels in the next 2 games. Those 2 guys plus a shaky bullpen = disaster.

It pains me to say this since I hate the Yankees. I'll be rooting for Petey to be in '99 form tonite.
But this is what I see happening:

Game 2: Yankees 13, Phillies 6
Game 3: Yankees 12, Phillies, 4

This prediction smacks of SEC like league pride from a fan of a fellow AL team. I respectfully disagree with you.

Charlie will do things like this, they are frustrating at the time and seem completely wrong and stupid, but in the recent past he has been right with these moves a lot more than not. Plus he had 122 pitches which is only 9 more than CC for what that's worth.

CC has also pitched a month and a half on 3 days rest...

I'm happy they left him in. I don't ever want to see any of the Phillies relief come in.

I also don't think they will pitch him on three days.

I actually see Pedro having a good outing tonight.

and last year all the short rest ended up getting to CC in the NLDS, but i'm not sure whether being used to pitching on short rest helps or is outweighed by accumulated wear and tear on the body? I guess we'll see.

CC was supposely "used" to pitching on 3 days' rest last year when the Phils faced him in the NLDS, and they hit the crap out if him then too.

Even if the Phils drop the next 2, they will win game 4 if Sabathia is the starter.

Where was all this braggadocio before last nights win? The Phils only scored 2 on Sabathia so I don't know about this hitting the crap out of him.

CC pitched pretty well: he only made two mistakes. But one mistake was too many because of the way Lee pitched last night.

The bullpen was dogshit for the Yanks.

Just pointing out the obvious. Pedro in Yankee Stadium tomorrow night = crooked scoreboard. I'd rather see Fat Joe Blanton on the hill if I were a Phillies fan.

I'm just having fun, and responding to some of the choice comments and predictions we've seen so far in this thread. Some samples from the Yankee or neutral fans:

"CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez share MVP."

"CC will beat Lee in a good game."

"The NL is a complete and total joke."

"Quite simply, CC Sabathia is a much better pitcher now."

"It'll be the most energetic atmosphere the New/Old Yankee Stadium has seen since 2004."

so no one here is going to give Nostradamus a run for his money either.

The Phillies essentially stole homefield advantage from the Yanks as they can now win the series in Philadelphia. I agree with letting Lee go the distance: he was so good he was better than any reliever (or starter) could have pitched in those late innings and Manuel probably never had the plan to pitch him on short-rest in Game 4 anyway because now at worst the Phils can be 1-2 going into that game. This way he has a rested bullpen for Pedro who, despite his performance in LA, is still a wild card in NY with the colder weather, DH, short fences and Yankees hitters. I think if the Yankees split or lose Games 2 and 3, Girardi will pitch C.C. on short-rest in Game 4, although he was probably planning on doing that all along.

I honestly don't know what to expect from Burnett tonight: he's such a headcase and based on his postseason thus far, a confident Phillies team might tee off. But if he shuts them down with a gem, I wouldn't be surprised either.

The lineup has Hairston (who has good splits against Pedro) in for Swisher and Molina in for Posada (as usual with A.J.), but I don't see either move really helping the Yankees offense.

Anybody want lottery numbers? Pedro did very well out there. Of course, his opponent pitched out of his ass so he got the loss. Just like old times.

Burnett was pretty impressive. I really wish Mariano Rivera would lose some ability at age 40 like everybody else.

Rivera is a once-in-forever talent because of his cutter. Because he throws one pitch, from the stretch, with the same motion, until his velocity breaks below 89 or so he'll remain effective. He is so levelheaded that he doesn't panic or fall apart when he allows a hit. Check out his reaction after Utley's double play- he slowly raised his fist, put his head down and walked off the mound. The most remarkable thing is that even when he allows runs, its rare that he's hit hard. The double by Ibanez was the hardest hit ball against him all post-season.

Rivera's so good no one on any team should ever wear his number. :chewbanka

I think Werth has his stroke down. he may be the one you avoid pitching too with men on base.

Utley and Howard are dangerous, but this guy is Jack Clarkesque.

My Son Claver, Branchinator--DixieEaglegenius74, EagleNYC in Section 18.

All had 6 games.

The one thing I miss most in life is going to every World Series Game in NY.

UGH....

Since 1996 Championship starting season:

Yankees 87-51 .630

Pettitte has 17 wins --1 With Houston for 18 career.

5-2 Championships
7-1 ALCS
8-5 ALDS

20-8

ALDS 35 24 59.3%
ALCS 27 14 65.9%
WS 25 13 65.8%
87 51 63.0%

89-54 SINCE 1995 when Seattle beat them 3-2.

19% or 17 from Pettitte.

ALDS 37-27----------- 7-2

143 Post season games in 15 years and 5 titles is money well spent.

Pedro was sick and the weather was cold.

If I were the Yankees, I would take a flyer on him and sign him.

He may get back to the low 90's in the heat and one more year of recovery and he still has good stuff.

Matsui is headed back to Japan which is sad for baseball.

Pure class and dignity and he apologized for breaking him arm...wow...

I still say the Yankees need a OF bopper, Pedro and maybe another number 3 starter.

Wang has head issues.
