USMNT news: Fabian Johnson is out injured with "partial tear of the lateral ligament in the left ankle" per a German article, so Beasley will get more time at LB and possibly Donovan at LM after the Gold Cup. Not sure how long he'll be out for though.

GoldCup: Costa Rica will be the best team we'll face obviously, and they have some talent on their squad with Saborio being a consistent scorer, Costa Rica's team will be strong with most likely the same players featuring up top at striker and in goal.

Grant Wahl tweets that Klinsmann will field his best team, so probably no Castillo. Tossups between Beltran and Parkhurst at RB, Holden/Torres/Mix at AM, but I think the rest of the team is set. Orozco I think has been more influential at CB than Goodson, but whoever starts for us will be tested against both Saborio and Arrieta.

I think most people seeing these various lineups and discussions are aware that starters Bradley, Howard, Dempsey, Altidore and a few others likely candidates like Johnson and Johnson, Jones and Zusi are missing from the Gold Cup squad.

Great pass by Donovan to spring Shrek, but he got pretty lucky on the finish. Hit it right at the keeper rather than slotting it anywhere.

Torres was terrible. A give away machine. I really can't see him going to Brazil at this point.

More good news, dual citizen Aron Johannsson declared he will play his international ball for the US. Johannsson is 22, was born in Alabama but raised in Iceland (yeah I know, but they actually have a pretty good team considering how small the country is--they're probably going to make the playoff stage of WC qualifying although their group is pathetic) and is seen as Jozy Altidore's replacement at AZ in Holland. Good chance we'll see him called up for the final round of WC qualifiers in October.

also John Anthony Brooks, a kid from Berlin who's dad was a US serviceman, will be called up to the Bosnia game next month. Really tall central defender. I suppose the Bosnia friendly will be mostly European-based players.

And of course Shea scored yesterday. In addition, Holden blew out his ACL during the final.
