Jhonny Peralta is a good signing at 4yrs/53 million.

Discuss.

It will be funny right up until the Yankees sign Beltran, which will be even funnier.

P&S are the Cards going to try and play that butcher at short or replace Freese at 3B? At SS he's an historically bad defender, at 3B he is just terrible.

They traded Freese for the Angels CF who supposedly is strong defensively.

these signings/trades will lead to these changes:
CF borjos over jay (better defensively, hitting is a toss-up)
SS peralta over kozma (hitting not defense)
2B wong over carpenter (defense not hitting)
3B carpenter over freese (hitting and defense unless freese has a huge 2014 at the plate)
RF craig over beltran (i am biased toward beltran)

some definite question marks in the lineup.

oh, and I've heard the opposite about Peralta... serviceable at SS but more than adequate at 3B.

That's not the opposite, you're just overrating him. He's historically terrible at SS, just terrible at 3B. As a SS he is a great DH.

Guy can barely move. If its hit right at him, he (usually) fields it.

The numbers say he was a historically bad defender but has become a solid one over the last three years. Defensive stats are notoriously fickle so I'm not sure how much faith I out in them but it appears he's gotten at least marginally better since his Cleveland days per scouting reports and UZR.

His numbers were really bad and he had a couple of outlier seasons - one in which he was so good at SS that they traded for his replacement and moved him to LF. And it wasn't because of his bat.

That was the worst infield in baseball history, and it wasn't just because of the fat tubs of goo at the corners.

In which he was suspended 50 games in the regular season and the SS referenced just happens to be the best fielding SS not named Andrelton Simmons. There's certainly an argument to be made, you're just not making it.

After he practically pleasured himself on TV to the Sox during the WS, AJ Pierszinski to the Sox on a one-year deal. Good bye Strikeoutalottia.

I am not sure what the hell the Yankees were thinking or what team drove up the price. It most certainly was not the Red Sox, who at this point are either going to put Bradley out there or are going to make a run at Kemp (hearing this is all about how much money).

I like Ellsbury's game a lot, but the Red Sox do not. More importantly, he will have about 3 strong seasons when you add up all of his stats for that 7-year period, unless he goes on the Damon miraculous juice.

Red Sox didn't have to do much because the plan all along was to fill from the farm this season. Napoli may get a deal, and they may trade for Kemp, and they should sign a few power arms. But there is not much else they need to do with Bradley and Bogaerts ready for prime time.

Red Sox get the power arm in their pen in Mujica.

Upgrade catcher? Check

Add power arm with control that keeps the ball down? Check

Remaining:

Add outfielder

Sign Napoli

It was likely Boras' fabled mystery team which never turns out to actually sign the person in question.

Is Kelly Johnson really the Yanks backup plan? I think Infante would be better suited for the Yanks. I have read the Brandon Phillips rumors, but do they have the prospects to get him?

Eh eventually you have to pull the trigger.

I prefer 4 for Granderson than 4 for Cruz.

i like the move, after the injury to harvey the mets needed someone who could eat (ha!) 200 innings.

as for the price, i'm happy they set the market on that tier of starting pitchers because the price and years are only going to go up
