Crazy how deGrom wasn't even included much in all the mets young arms heading into the season.

Unfortunately they're eventually going to have to move some of these arms for a bat.

Also kudos to Sandy are due for the Granderson signing. Yeah he had a shitty April and that counts but May, June & July his OBP is .463, 13 HR, 40 BB/55 K in 59 games

I have to give kudos to Sandy for holding onto Duda and letting Ike go. I was an Ike guy, but it looks like I was wrong.

Trading some of these arms for a bat is a tough proposition. It's a seller's market for major league-ready hitters, especially if you're not willing (or able) to take on a bad contract. I think the Mets would get the best return making a deal similar to what the Cubs did in the Samardzija trade, but this would require more patience from the fan base, and I don't think the fans have any left.

So Duda over Ike ends up being a win for the Metsies and Alderson is not a retard? I am stunned! Nametag event tomorrow for the Huey Lewis and the News concert. The Logitano Army will be there! :ace

There's smoke around these Carlos Gonzalez trade rumors and I don't like it.

His career OPS away from Coors Field is .755, and his Citi Field OPS is .469 in 43 plate appearances. One could argue that he wouldn't be among the top 10 hitting outfielders in the NL East should he land in NY. He's owed $53 million over the next 3 seasons. A career .755 hitter can be had on the free agent market for $50 million. Granderson is an .812 guy and they got him for $60. No need to trade a prospect.

Plus, he has played 127, 135 and 110 games the past three years. Pass.

It all depends on who you're giving up.

To play devil's advocate..

He's a 28 year old OF that's signed at a reasonable rate for the next 3.5 years. His OPS on the road the last several years.
2014: .579
2013: .987
2012: .706
2011: .757

The players right now who have a higher OPS than that average (.757) on the Mets: Duda

The FA market is just miserable going forward. Think it's pretty clear they need an upgrade at SS or LF to take that next step as the pitching, TDA, Legares, Duda, etc. develop.

Here are the FA this winter
SS:
Mike Aviles (34) – $3.5MM club option with a $250k buyout
Clint Barmes (36)
Asdrubal Cabrera (29)
Stephen Drew (32)
Rafael Furcal (37)
Tyler Greene (31)
J.J. Hardy (32)
Jed Lowrie (31)
John McDonald (40)
Hiroyuki Nakajima (32) – $5.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Nick Punto (37) – club/vesting option
Hanley Ramirez (31)
Jimmy Rollins (36) – vesting/club/player option

LF:
Melky Cabrera (30)
Chris Denorfia (34)
Jonny Gomes (34)
Tony Gwynn Jr. (32)
Scott Hairston (35)
Reed Johnson (38)
Ryan Ludwick (36) – $9MM mutual option with a $4.5MM buyout
Darnell McDonald (35)
Mike Morse (33)
Alfonso Soriano (39)
Vernon Wells (36)
Josh Willingham (36)
Delmon Young (29)

There's just nothing out there.

Not sure I would list Hanley Ramirez and then describe the list as "nothing"

So there's what 1 all star or hell above average regular out there?

Regardless can't see the coupons out bidding the Yankees, Dodgers, and everyone else who needs a SS.

He's also had injury issues over the last several years and is a couple of years older than Cargo

Claver, where did you get that list of pending FAs? I was looking for something like that to help gauge the market. A thin market is a concern.

Would you give up deGrom for CG? I feel like that's what Colorado will want to do the deal. Tough pill to swallow.

Through MLBtraderumors.com

Here's the complete list: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/2 ... gents.html

I probably would, eventually you have to give up something to get something. Teams are obviously going to want one of the Mets young arms ultimately who do you part with?

Plus Hanley is a very shitty SS. If I recall, Cargo is at least a decent OF.

And I imagine Colorado wants Syndegaard or whatever his name is.

To play along in your hypothetical even if they want Syndergaard that still leaves you next year with a rotation of: Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Gee, DeGrom, plus Colon and if shit happens Montero and maybe by the mid point of the season Matz.

Eventually you're going to have to trade some of these arms to get an impact bat.

You know you have been away from fantasy too long when you look at that list and only recognize the broken young pitcher and the fat old one.

The fanbase's reaction to the announcement that Colon will start Opening Day is the most Chicken Little reaction I've seen in a long history of Chicken Little reactions. And this is coming from someone who worries every time Harvey throws a bullpen.

no question, even if he hits like a P (which he's shown he won't and has improved) it's a bargain with the defense he provides. especially important this year with cuddyer & granderson on either side of him

btw good lord has howard lost it, he had absolutely zero shot catching up to any of harvey's fastballs
