Another gutsy W, battling back from 4-0 with an AARP AAA player on the mound.

Bullpen has been great.

Tough night for Philly, lose to the Mets, eliminated by the Devils, lose to the Bulls -how unfortunate

have i mentioned it is a nice change of pace to be the team with the young, up-and-coming players beating the team with aging overpaid stars on the DL? keep kicking 'em while they're down, lads.

For those who are too lazy:

Victorino is up there on the list of baseball players I hate that deserve one in the ear, he was the one a copule of nights ago that slid about 10 feet out of the baseline on a takeout slide.

The only thing worse than the way he plays the game is his nickname, which makes me want to smash a pineapple.

Who would've thunk it a 3 game series in Philly where their top 2 pitchers are going and the Mets bottom 3 are going.

Battling back again.

I hope the sell-out crowds at Citizen's enjoyed it as much as we did.

The Eastern divisions of both leagues are dominating the wild card standings.

I'll take 4-2 but it does suck when those 2 are blown leads in the 9th.

Francisco was getting squeezed (was listening to Howie, who absolutely tore Francisco a new one) but couldn't retire anyone. Terry came out to pull him before he could do anymore damage and Francisco went right after the umpire, got tossed (which didn't mean shit cause he was already pulled).

Howie described it as a complete emotional breakdown on Francisco's part. According to the 2012 version of questec (forget what it's called) the pitches were strikes. Apparently it was one of those holier than thou umps that would refused to address Frank but still.

His flip out was more on the field, but he didn't seem to calm down much before meeting the media:

"All strikes," Francisco maintained. "I threw one a little high[er], because he didn't call one at the knees. I threw a straight fastball right there. He didn't call anything. And then I went a little higher to see. And he didn't call the higher one. There's nothing you can do about that. It's their call. I feel like I should say something."

Francisco said he legitimately originally wanted a response from Tichenor about why the pitches were ruled balls. He said the ump was stoic and unresponsive.

"He didn't say anything," Francisco said. "He didn't say anything. I asked him where were those pitches, and he didn't say anything. I expected him to say something -- probably 'low,' 'away,' or something. Give me a reason. Nothing."

Francisco acknowledged the lack of a response got him more upset.

"Yeah," Francisco said. "I was asking a simple question."

Pretty crazy that Wright's OBP is still over .500, only 1 person within .50 points.

Speaking of Wright, we haven't discussed Terry Collins' decision to pinch hit for him Wednesday to avoid having him intentionally beaned.

I think both sides of the argument have merit. Under the circumstances (down 8 runs in the 7th inning), I think Collins' made the right move. I would hope that if the game were closer, he would have left Wright in.

Unrelated, but I think it deserves attention - Frank Catalonotto has been a solid addition to MetsBlog.

First of all I didn't see it live, so all I saw was postgame videos, commentary, etc.

I think both come out looking excellent.

Terry is old school (true old school, not like that fehg in Philly), he knows the drill. David has probably been the MVP (in the literal sense) in the NL -this team is essentially a bunch of kids, misfits and an all-star. He has zero protection in the lineup and is still hitting over 400 while playing with a broken finger. If this team has any chance at the 2nd WC a trip to the DL for him ends that.

Thanks for the heads up, I haven't seen it (it's blocked at work so I usually read when I get back) but will look out for it.

Updated prospect rankings (since we have some weirdos on the board) came out today, Zach Wheeler was #16

16. Zack Wheeler, RHP, New York Mets (age 21)
Current level: Double-A (Binghamton)
Preseason ranking: 27

The only thing between him and potential No. 1-starterdom is just throwing more strikes. The raw stuff is there.

That is encouraging. Of course, they said the same thing about Oliver Perez.

Would it be considered ironing if, after everything that happened with the Mets this offseason, it was the Yankees who ended up being sold?

It's looking that way. But I still wonder about Willie Randolph. I know he oversaw the collapse of '07, which was unforgivable, but I still think he'll be a good manager one day. People forget he had no managerial experience when the Mets hired him.

Since you despise Bobby V, I'll ignore him (but seriously look at that team he got to the WS http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2000.shtml)

I'd have to say it's Terry.

They have 1 guy hitting over .300 and no one with more than 5 HRs and despite how he has been only 1 win from Johan. This team has no business being over .500. Even though the :ugeek: s say this won't last (3rd worst run diff in NL, etc), they're here at the quarter mark.

Vintage Santana this weekend. He might not have the 95 fastball but he can still pitch

If this team is going to make this summer interesting, they're going to need to tread water through June with only 1 of the next 10 series against teams below .500

Would be nice to win tonight but with Lee vs. Gee I have minimal expectations

With Doc being out till the trading deadline and the Nats insisting on their innings count for Strasburg, this division is wide open.
