French soccer has been disastrous these past 4 years starting with the Zidane headbutt, the cheap way they qualified for the World Cup, and now "Operation Shutdown".

Now they're down a man with a red card. I don't believe a 10-man team has scored yet in this WC. Au revoir, Shosanna!

Uruguay beating Mexico. If South Africa scores 2 more goals, and the other score stays the same, South Africa will advance over Mexico.

I’m surprised France went 0-1-2, but good for the South Africans to finish out play on a high note.

If we can win our group, we have a good chance of an easy draw, probably facing Serbia and then the winner of South Korea-Uruguay (of course this could all shake out differently, still). Not that we win either of those guaranteed, but that's a very manageable draw to the semifinal. If we finish second in the group - yikes. We are looking at Germany-->Argentina most likely. That would suck a lot.

Don't start projecting match-ups just yet. Germany's loss earlier makes that group totally up in the air. They could finish 1st, 2nd, or not even qualify at this point. I was hoping to avoid them at all costs in the 2nd round because obviously it'll be a tougher road (and you certainly want no part of Argentina in the quarters), but it's not going to be up to them now. That'll get played out in the 2nd session tomorrow. Besides, the US has their own problems with Altidore having a stomach bug and their own inconsistencies.

It doesn't sound like anything major (my mind immediately wandered to Montozuma's (sp?) Revenge), but it was mentioned on the WWL a few times today that he didn't practice, but would be fine for the game.

Just to add on to what I was saying earlier about Germany and projecting 2nd round opponents for the US. It's actually worse than I thought for the Germans. They've got group leader Ghana tomorrow, and assuming a Serbian win over Australia the Krauts would have to beat Ghana to make the 2nd round. Heck, even Australia winning that game would mean the Germans would have to beat Ghana to advance (the Aussies can advance with a win and a German win).

Essentially, barring a draw between Australia and Serbia, Germany is out if they don't beat Ghana.

They just showed the replay...no way was that offsides...fucking robbed again. Amazing.

And on the other side England just scored...so now that disallowed goal looms even larger.

Jesus, how many more chances does the US want to punch the ball in the net...they can't keep missing open chances like this. I feel like I'm watching the Bruins again...

Unfucking believable...they should have scored 5 goals in that game and couldn't catch a break. I gave up at about they 80' mark...but finally in the extra time they're able to bang one in!!! Now, not only do they advance, but they WIN THE GROUP! What a game...
