Is this like how Al Gore invented internets?

It's like how Mugatu invented the piano-key tie.

Not sure either but he is a hell of a manager. I'd take him back for the mets in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't describe him as a "hell of a manager" based on how things devolved there (in an even worse way that they did in Boston just recently), but I did just eat a buffalo chicken wrap in celebration.

Probably the latter but maybe the former, if you're so sure.

I don't have a great feeling about the Bobby V era in Boston, but it should be very entertaining either way.

The Red Sox are regressing with their moves and the stupidity does not stop. Not resigning Papabon is a big mistake and then not signing a reliable closer like Heath Bell after losing Pap is ludicrous. Theo, Cherington, etc. are amazingly GM's who have made bad moves or the lack of making good transactions contunues the Sox mediocre front office.

Next, they should have resigned Victor Martinez as the catcher, now they have 2 shitty catchers who can't hit and 1 is too old at this point and only good as a bench player or an occasional backup catcher in Tek. The other catcher is what you get and what you pay for, a mediocre catcher who can't hit consistently or at best an average catcher at best.

The signing of Lackey did not thrill me when they could have gone after more reliable starting pitchers on the market at the time of his signing.

If they think Bard is the closer, then so be it. He has not proven it ever and his meltdown in the setup role contributed to the Sox September swoon.

Bobby V. sounds nice but not sure he is the man. Dale Sveum did not light my fire either when he was a candidate and neither was the other no name candidate.

In short, I don't expect much improvement from the Sox next year with their holes in the starting pitching, bullpen and everyday lineup.

There are other moves like Crawfod but I won't get into that yet.

According to Felger, Bobby V is trying to add Buckner to his staff.

The one thing I liked about the other candidate (Lamont) was that he's an old school fat cranky guy.

Does anyone else think the idea of Bard as a starter is a terrible one, or is it just me?

If he can locate his pitches and become a decent 3 he provides more value than if he was a closer. Worth a shot for spring training at least. Can always put him back in as the closer like they did with Paps that one year (2007 maybe?).

Weiland should have been enough for an average reliever in the NL Central. Regardless, Lowrie will probably break his foot getting off the plane in Houston or something.

I don't understand. He doesn't seem to have many pitches but he can throw it 100 mph. To me that says reliever.

That one I'm actually angry about. Nick Punto is one of those players I have absolutely hated for some time for no real apparent reason.

You see, I don't watch as many Sox games as some, but that's been my thought on it too. Over-reliance on the fastball is fine for a reliever, but it will get a starter beat up.

By the same token, forcing to work on his other pitches in Spring Training by making him as a starter could be beneficial if he is ultimately moved back to reliever as Pap was in the season that was noted above.

I like having him as a bench player. I will be mad when injuries make him a starter in the infield.

I'm agree this. I'm OK with the move so long as he never sees the field.

Really? He has 4 excellent pitches. he just can't throw any for strikes and the 100 mph one is the worst of the bunch. This is a good move. Shock of all shocks, the guy was a starting pitcher in college, and has been mediocre as a reliever. Lights out in stretches, but maybe he is just an every 5 day guy.
